Any photo,s would be good.
Thank you in advance

Another for the collection.

I started my driving career doing runs over to the Liverpool and Birkenhead docks in 1974, as an 18 year old on a 5 tonner TK flat with Alec Sharples of Salford.
And use to love queing up along the docks with the big lads, helping each other fold sheets to pass the time. The thing that sticks in my mind most about the drive along the East Lancs Road back then, was the AEC’s running about in the livery of Jacob’s Crackers.

Hi Tipit here’s one for you. Sorry about that,i can’t find how to put the pictures on.(Jacobs wagon & drag.

Does anyone remember these from Birkdale … Southport Sand Co, with some nice sounding 2 strokes !

Hi TIPIT

Great photo, it looks a nice job.

Any more visitors to the Liverpool area in your collection.

Thanks again.

xkopite … That’s all I’ve found so far, but will keep a look out for you.

Southport Sand also ran 24-cabbed Leyland Octopii which were supplied by Woodwards. In fact, Woodwards themselves ran tippers which worked on sand extraction.

Thanks for that Marky, I thought I could remember them with L.A.D. cabbed Leyland’s, do you know roughly when they finished ?

I always thought Rainfords took them over - if that was the case, it would’ve been around 70-71 when the place at Marshside opened.

hiya,
not the 60s but the 40s any old fogies remember Appleby’s flour mill? on the junction of strand rd and stanley rd and the fleet of steamers that used to run the wheat from the docks to the mill my memories was hanging on the back of same getting a lift home from school and getting a whack on the backside by the fireman with his cane if you hadn’t seen him get down from the cab, they never seemed to go much faster than walking speed, god i feel old.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Lads.
Does anyone rember the Bibby ERF tractor with their 4 in line drags.

Can anyone confirm if they were green as I have seen some Austin bulk carriers in a light livery for Bibby,s also.

Both vehicles seen in black & white photo,s

I would like to know both livery colours if possible.

Hi, Alfred Dexter’s was a North London firm who ran a trunk to Liverpool specialising in fruit and veg and ran nearly all Atkinsons with I believe the odd Guy. The Garston Bottle Co. Ltd. ran green Leyland 8 wheelers and Trailers which were their own, the red AEC 8 wheeler and trailers which also were signed out as The Garston Bottle Co. Ltd. were in fact owned by a compant called Jeury’s, not sure of the spelling, from Liverpool, both green and reds seemed to run back empty, and were probably on a “C” licence.

Tony.

The Jewry you refer to is “Peter Jeory” that later became “S&A Jeory” (Stan & Alec). They had a yard in Halewood Village, it was from there that they ran a fleet of about 50 AEC 8 wheeler and trailers and a few artics. They were mostly C Licences contracted to Garston Bottle Works. I was an apprentice fitter there for 4 years before they closed down. The firm was done for running on pink diesel and Stan went to prison.

Alright xKopite
I have just come across this site while looking at old wagon photos and video clips. I spend most of my computer time looking at these especially wagons from the 50s & 60s. I should be able to come up with photo of J & H Transport they were a London firm with a depot in Canal St. and around Canon Place, and others.

They became part of the P&O Group, but nothing directly to do with Pandoro. As I recall, they disappreaed into P&O Roadtanks along with James Hemphill, John Forman & A S Jones

Does anyone remember or have a pic of a firm called BBH Transport (bootle board haulage)? They had a yard in Nelson St,Bootle and also done work for Peerless foods in Heysham Rd.
They had a few Sed Atki’s 400/401, Ex Bass Brown Volvo F10’s and red Scania 112.
