Does anybody realise how long it will take to count up to 1 million, it’s taken 10 months up to now and we are still to get to 500.
At this rate it will be 2 years to get to 1000, times that by 1000, don’t you think we’ve set our sights a little too high  :sunglasses:

E number 478

478: Mixture of glycerol- and propyleneglycolesters of lactic acid and fatty acids
Origin:
Combination of lactic acid, glycerol, propanediol and natural fats. Normal fat consists of glycerol and fatty acids, for these products glycerol is replaced by propanediol. The fats are mainly from plant origin, but also fats of animal origin may be used. The product generally is a mixture of different components.

Function & characteristics:
Emulsifiers and stabilisers.

Products:
Bakery products

Acceptable Daily Intake:
Up to 25 mg/kg bodyweight for propyleneglycol

Side effects:
All components are normally present in the body and will be metabolised in the normal way. High concentrations of propyleneglycol can cause eczema in sensitive persons, but not normally from the use in foods.

Dietary restrictions:
Although mainly vegetable oils are used, the use of animal fat (incl. pork) can not be excluded. Several groups, such as vegans, Muslims and Jews thus avoid these products. Only the producer can give detailed information on the origin of the fatty acids. Chemically the fatty acids from vegetable or animal origin are identical.

479 is the number we are up to on this thread so far.

USS Irex SS-482

This web site is dedicated to the submarine USS Irex SS-482 and her crew. It contains a history, photographs, sea stories, documents and links relevant to the history of the boat. It draws upon many sources, but in particular the photos and stories so generously offered by crew members and information gleaned from the U.S.S. Irex (SS482) Newsletter edited over the years by Ron Liles, Wally Krupenevich and then by Al and Terry Hahn.

The Irex was a Tench class fleet submarine that was launched on 7 October 1944 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and commissioned on 14 May 1945. The boat operated from Key West in 1946 and 1947. In July 1947, she became the first operational submarine equipped with a snorkel. After testing the snorkel, the Irex was permanently assigned in February 1948 to Squadron 8 in New London, where she remained until being decommissioned in November 1969.

The boat and her crew had many travels and adventures under their belt, and there are important lessons here about social relations.
