how old is that Comet then? must be early '60’s ?
definitely pre 1958 they stopped making comets with this cab design the LAD cab came next…and air brakes much later I would guess this model around 1955.

TAY 473 is still registered on the Gov website! wonder if it is sitting in a barn,waiting to be re-discovered?

go on the Gov.uk site,click on ‘check vehicle MOT history’.
it has TAY down as Seddon Atkinson Uknown,colour Green,fuel diesel,date first reg. 22 June 1959.
Thank you very much I have a new investigative tool now…I think this atkinson was built around 1955 it still has the wooden cab …and for some reason not registered in the uk until 1959.

i found out from that site that the Matchless motorcycle i have just bought was last taxed in 1979! 
back to the Atki…John Ellis & Sons were bought out by one of my old employers,Redland,and their old works at Barrow still had the name on one of the buildings…may still have! must have a snoop around one day

NMP off FB. A lot of hard work there! Having said that I once pulled on site at the same time as a slab motor, I’d got 16000 bricks n Hiab n he,on his own, unloaded in about the same time. He only picked a few up placed them along side the motor then rolled the rest off!! Talk about poetry in motion !!
