Hi Dave, good to hear from you. I heard that you were back in Plymouth. I’m still Sheppey based although working for a much larger Global concern based in LHR these days doing as well as can be expected…and married 11 yrs with 2 kids! I’ve added a few bits over on the Croome thread and hope to add some more soon incl some snaps. Had some very fond times there. Still keep in touch with James and Chris who are both doing different things nowadays.
M&C Jamie:
Hi, would this be the same mick deans , that was trying to multi task in Okty’s yard one evening, by helping Cyril back to his truck and serenading me at the same time, after Cok tany Effes control.

thats the one and only yes lol
FFS Mickey Dean only just seen this, I notice the old slappers fly is open ready for action bless him…
its ok for you, he has just been on the phone to me telling me he has some good work coming up
Last week at work(Manitoba Canada) I got talking to a couple o engineers over a sly drink cough cough …(dry camp ) and they were talking about their time in KAsakstan in the late 90s intae the 2000s seems they were supervising building grain elevators and huge grain bins, well I let them see this post and they both said aye they remember English and scots drivers delivering supplies to the camps they were in. so did anyone on here deliver to these jobs.(skyway industries was one o the companies they contracted for). They both said the drivers were treated as guests and many a good night was had . james
We had a couple of truck that did a few loads to them, I think it was big electric motors out of Swiss… Not a 100% sure as it wasn’t me I was on north Norway at the time…
That’s an interesting video Dan… set up by the IRU … some of the names ring a bell but us drivers weren’t high up enough to see any faces. A few of our guys went on an IRU training course in Chur before they went out. I suppose they would call it induction now… As usual I was somewhere else at the time…
Looks like they bought a fair bit of old rolling stock from Peakes of Warsaw…
So over the first 9 months they spent about 1/3 of their time sitting round at check points and border crossings, and spent over $150,000 on bribes… Not much change there… I see they were sending fairly large convoys…up to 12 trucks at a time… that would have totally overwhelmed the control points… Rynart had the best idea in sending 3 or 4 truck at half day intervals… still the same amount of trucks per day but spread out… plus they have a local fixer at most crossings…
Ralph Davies.Peter Gilder and sons,(Russanglia).Would be interesting to read some stories of trips to Kasak and beyond, think some drivers made it to the Chinese border.Guns for hire, for truck protection, escorts.Viruses from showers, nasty diseases, bungs to the Russian police, etc.

or from the 3 who went first, gordon macmillan and cyril gardiner off croome’s and danny mcauliffe subbing for kepstowe’s, while RD and co were still doing oranges from spain
What an interesting read. You certainly had some courage to take on such a challenge. How many trips did you do yourself Dave? How on earth did you calculate a price without knowing the full extent of the job? I hope you made good money!! Did you manage to collect any return traffic and if so, where from? Excellent post. Chapeau!
