Hi jjI suppose nothing ventured nothing gained!!! Seriously though i suppose you never know what you are eating when you are travelling and its maybe a good job aswell. The night i went out in nukus with an egyption i was staying with we went to a place who were trying to give us dog soup. The lad i was with didnt know the russian word for dog so i declined for us both and we had the kebabs!!! Maybe they were dog kebabs
I remember going to that huge Sunday market in Moscow (the one where you could by a ■■■ lighter or a spacemans suit or a submarine hatch even) there was a gang of us one being a Gilders driver (Charlie I think) anyway we ended up eating shaslik off a roadside vendor on the way back to the parking & the next day I did’nt make it from the lorry to the thunder box, what a mess The Gilders driver told me he never ate out whilst over there so ■■■■ knows how he went on the next day Some very duious meats served up in that country me thinks.

What about the village between Penza and Samara with shashlik stalls all along both sides of the road, can`t remember the name of the place, but I never saw a dog wandering about anywhere near the place.
Shashliks tasted ok to me
Does that MP4 after the youtube video mean the speed they travel at is 4MPH
The travel agent link to the organ donors is worrying, especially when you see all the related stories below it. Makes you wonder where all these UK Sunday market traders buy their meat

Hi John
The village you talk about would be Umet and here is a photo of my friend kevins of a few shashlic stalls in the winter.
This has been posted on another thread and if you look you can see all the little huts that you sit down in to eat your kebab!!
They finally built a good TIR park at the end of the village on the left on the way to samara and it was a good parking area

Good pictures Gary, nice line up with the Pig!
Have you got any pictures of the original FH16 N777RDF by any chance please (or know anyone who has)? I have purchased her to restore and there is a recent picture below of her. Would be great to see what she used to get up to.
Can you remember Vladmir from the parking lots you guys used to use in Smolensk? I have his email if you want it, I know he has been in contact with ten bellies a year or so back.
Have a good Christmas.
Regards
Ryan
Nice photos gary and good to see you on here. Just like to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to one and all and all the best for the NEW YEAR

Only just found, and read, all of the posts on Kazakhstan. Fransen Transport originally started the run down to Tengiz in 1990. I had some interesting times ,summer and winter, driving down there. When we stopped Peter Gilder started, and I was very impressed by his choice of equipment. The pictures posted reminded me that it really was serious stuff ! Alan Bremner was mentioned, and I remember meeting him several times, he ran a blue Renault, as I recall. Regards to all.

Hi John,re Alan Bremner aka Lennin. I also had many great trips with him when we pulled for Kepstowe and later for Eurogate on the Zarafshan job. He later went on to drive for the company that moved the medical trailers around the hospitals. He was then working as a caretaker of empty pubs , which i thought was hilarious. He is living in his Winnibago Motorhome and doing a bit of this and that as the opertunity arises. I have many fond memories of Alan. regards Jamie.

How is this for an adventure, at this moment there is a party of Finns on route from Finland to Thailand, by Bus.
Intented route is, Russia, Kazkhstan, China, Laos, Thailand, they are at this time just to the east of Samara.
I have been contacted by the younger brother of the bus driver, he is asking if I can advise him of present conditions in Kazakhstan, I have not been in that area since 1997, so any info would be well out of date, can anybody on here help with current conditions as regards road conditions, available fuel, security.
They do have permission to enter China, before we all say you cannot take a foreign reg. vehicle into China.
Follow their progress via this link.

There’s still a company in Finland who was the pioneer of CIS countries, I think they sometimes still do Kazakhstan. Why didn’t they ask there?
