I seem to remember Kammacs coming into Kemsley paper Mill with baled waste from Skem, they then loaded with reels back to Skem, seem to remember a smart looking Magnum, cant remember the name plate in the top of the windscreen though…

Good Man! Get them on here!

Brian, started WhiteLine, remember them ? But it didnt last and Brian ended up broke and I believe homeless. He died , so I heard, on the streets with nowt.

Paul on the other hand, resurrected Kammac, it became Kammac 1988 after buying it back from Leggetts; He made a success of it and it is what it is today.

One of the brothers was a driver for them, cant remember his name , lived in a Motor Home ?

Thats not correct.
Paul was hired as the general manager by the Leggett brothers who renamed the company Kammac 88, I know as we had to collect his company car from Enfield on our way back up to restart our jobs after being paid off by the administrator. He may well have bought the company back some time further down the road though, I would not know that

There was another brother called Melvin I think?

Ross.

Brian was found dead in the garage of his home in Mawdesley, so I don’t think he was quite homeless.

He did startup Whiteline after the Kammac debacle, and I believe the SA401 pictured earlier was a Whiteline wagon, along with another 401 powered by a Gardner 6LXCT. He used to have them repaired & serviced by Les Riley in School Lane, Burscough - the Gardner-powered 401 used to be parked there every night too.

Brian’s brother Melvyn lived in Parbold and had two sons, Paul & Karl. I believe this is the Paul who is involved with Kammac plc.

I learnt to drive in this one !! This was my Uncles motor. You can imagine the flak we got over the CB. Bloody Kammac, whose teaching who etc etc etc etc

Right that was my first attempt at posting photos, it worked !!

Routier, as promised, some more from that brochure

and a couple more of my Uncles

I remember Nigel, wasn’t he a Kammel maybe younger brother of Paul & Brian? He was behind a company called Raven, subbed a bit for him in my young green days!!! Got paid but had too really fight with the accounts department at Leggets, was fed the usual crap no pod’s, no pallet notes they tried all sorts of tricks to avoid paying u. There was a guy in the office at Raven can’t think what his name was, drove an old Scimitar?

I worked for Leggetts at Peterlee around 1991 when Kammac '88 was operating. I can remember the C - DND DAFs and E - TJA Volvos, all of which to my knowledge, were in white with blue and red striping. The trailer fleet was a mix of Fruehauf tandem boxed and curtainsiders, numbered in a KAM700 series, and, I think, ex Leggett stock. Some of these may even have originally been their Woolworth contract trailers. They were liveried in red with large white stylised Kammac fleetnames, and regularly worked with Leggett tractors. I have a photo of B235WNC repainted in Leggett blue and red at their Bothwell Depot (one of two but do not know the identity of the second unit), and recall another WNC in the hands of an owner driver (Hannard?) at Wallsend, in blue and white DFDS colours. I believe Jerry Quinn’s son Garry still works at Kammac. I used to deal with Nigel (who I think was a Kammel) at a clearing house called Raven Transport around this time.
On a slight tangent, if anyone happens to remember, or has pictures of Leggett’s Foden 4300 tractor E702HRT in service, please contact me, as I have this as a restoration project. Thanks

I can remember when the first lot of Volvos turned up in there plain white with red and blue striping .A lot of the drivers did not like nor want them as they was the basic model. If i remember rightly they came without a night heater as well. The middle axle was so slow to acted that if you got wheel spin and hit the button it took forever to lift you normal had taken a few thousand miles off the drive axle

B235WNC was (if I recall correctly) originally canary yellow, one of 3 painted in that colour. Quite an eye catching colour, and for a period of time was in fact my regular wagon, unit was normally parked outside my house during the weekends, neighbours were not best pleased.

Heres another one of mine

Here you go, a pic of the trailer livery

crackin pics TC Trans and The Ghost!

The Canary Yellow, the shades of Purple / Lilac and the different shades of Green were the best colours there.

Nigel was one of the Kamels as I remember and a firm called Raven rings a bell.

Do you remember Mick Roberts ?
