Just to say hello!

MAN-South:
So I’m getting the impression overal your impressed with the MAN range? :grimacing:

Where do I start lol

How about why they’ve gone downhill? The plant hire firm I started out with ran M and N reg MAN 8wheelers and they were great motors.
Fast forward to 2006 when they were getting tired they didn’t fancy the updated MAN they went for Hinos. Which still look in good condition 7 years later.
As I’ve said already, great driving position, visibility and great off road but let down by stupid faults.

gingo:
how are you supposed to pull the n/s sun visor down while driving ?

As has been said, total inferior crap to the F2000 model. Had mine over two years now and really can’t wait to see the back of it at its 3 year point, just hope they don’t replace it with another! Only good points for me are the Isri seat and ZF comfortshift, the rest of it unfit for purpose. Carl, you still there?

We have a number of MANs, rigid & artic, ranging from the yard spare unit, a 03 plate TGA, up to 12 plate TGXs. When mine is off the road (an Actros), I love getting into the old TGA for a day or two - its got a cracking gearbox with the comfort shift, handles well, feels great to drive. However, I hate being out in any of the TGXs - I can’t deal with that delay between touching the throttle and pulling away. Trying to reverse slowly and smoothly is a nightmare. No doubt if I drove one every day I’d get used to it, but for an occasional drive it feels horrible.

The one big area where the MANs score over my Merc is with the seat - I can sit in the MANs one for hours, in the Merc I find I’m fidgeting after a while.

Gary

We want Carl we want Carl come back Carl.

i got 3 57 plate TGA’s, and can’t fault them :grimacing:

Talking about seats, mine’s probably the most basic in the range and is lovely and comfortable, no lumbar adjusts etc which is surprising.

if you had the proper cab you have a button on the dashboard :stuck_out_tongue:

You took the words out of my mouth, and yes I’m still here people negativity doesn’t scare me I’ve been in the MAN group far to long - I’ve heard it all before.

If your expecting me to wave a wand and make your fuel consumption better or your gearbox smoother waste someone else’s time, if you legitimately want a hand, I’ll do mÅ· best

Peace

Not negativity, just peoples’ honest opinions. Just seems MAN have become a more respectable version of Hino.

Tooz:
Why are the steering wheels so BIG? lol

+1.

Ken.

weeto:
The only good thing in the truck was the stereo, lol

Not it wasn’t. the dashboard tended to swallow most of the ones that I drove, as the surround was inferior to hold it.

Apart from them being two completely differently build trucks? Looking nothing alike, handling nothing alike, apart from that maybe

What I meant was they’re flimsy built and not a patch on other makes of tipper. Sad really as MAN used to be a good make.

Well mine is now losing power, is only doing 5.6mpg :open_mouth: and rolls backwards even in forward mode with hill hold on. Unpredictable gear changes and ridiculously sluggish from standing. This is the most unreliable tipper I’ve ever driven, and it’s not 3 years old until June 2014.

i take it, your’s is the auto box?

i had an issue on one of mine where i had to get the throttle peddle recalibrated to the clutch, and that sorted the unpredictable gear changes

Yes mine’s an auto. A subbie we use has the manual and has had no trouble with his.

Muckaway, have you tried driving this box in manual override?..its about as much use as a chocolate teapot as an auto but once you get used to manual mode its far better, and far better on fuel too.

Yes I do, and switch back to auto for downchanging. It’s still not great off the mark although it’s not bad on hills in the higher gears. I can’t believe it’s a 400 as our Scania P360s leave it standing. A subbies’ Daf CF 8legger with a 340 in it was practically pushing me along the other day…

Sounds like it needs a proper mechanic to breathe on the thing.

My 440 matches favourably against the 440 Scanias, leaves them comfortably from rest up to say 30 mph from whence there’s not much to choose.
