Jobs In Canada

flat to the mat:
Certainly Canada isn’t for the workshy , unless you’re happy living on SFA and missing out on what the place has to offer . Sadly some are which allows those with a bit of ambition to make the most of life and flourish , most of the expats on here seem to be surviving  .
Surprised on you wanting to move NMM , Steinbach seems a nice town , bit out on a limb but has everything you need and looks smart enough . Although every business seems to be called Reimer , maybe that’s the hinderence , not being part of the sect . Small town lifestyle with a good work/playtime balance has a lot going for it , especially in our later years , wins hands down over the concrete box cities , IMHO .

Workshy…
Not working less than 8h per 24h…, 7x16h shifts legally and 1,5days off…, switching from nights to days and other way around on daily basis…, living in a small inbred sect obsessed town in the middle of nowhere…

Yeah, no doubt, some might like this…, but not me…

WTF are you flapping your lips about ? Obviously have an axe to grind , would you care to share expand ?

Hi FTTM.Having soken with this lad via this site as he has also tried his luck up here in Lappland [also without success],i Think that his experience was due to naivity,a lack of experience, bad research and ‘‘rose coloured specs’’.As is\was the case for many the reality turned out to be somewhat different then the expectations. No doubt he will be along to clarify more

The short answer to all of you might be… “generation gap”…

I’m from the opposite camp from you all lot, so here is your answer…

This is also the answer of so called “trucker shortage”…
One answer to both questions.

In terms of Canada, this forum is full of old generation representatives who live in Canada or have lived for very long time.
I do not think there are many of my age represented here…

As per hutpik comment - I already told you details, do not see the reason for your comment, but whatever do what you want… I went for a specific job… didn’t get it due to not talking Swedish… regrouped and will head back for part 2 again - missing things have been sorted already… :stuck_out_tongue:

As per this attitude - this is towards the old Canadians, not hutpik:
“Ohh… you young guys must grind through sheit like we did, you young guys must go through sheity clunkers like we did etc…”
You can stuff this in one place… those times are over - Yes we are young, Yes, we think different, Yes, we demand better working conditions and better trucks, and YES, we do get it weather you old f… like that or not…
I know few young guys who have gone into company, show their best sides and get new trucks, better trucks, better treatment etc while bunch of old f… are looking at them from their daily chatteerrryyy… whatever grinding their teeth and talking sh…
I’ve done it few times myself and will do that again…

This job is what you make of it - you want to drive old clunker and consider poor working conditions normal - no problem, we - younger generation of drivers don’t and do things differently… deal with it

Do you feel “entitled” ? :unamused:

Hi.I was not being critical towards you when we communiacted, but i stated that i found it strange that after all the problems you seemed to have had in Canada and all the advice i sent you that you were not better prepared when you came here.To say that it was because you dón’t speak Swedish is a cop out. There are dozens of firms looking for people,No-one speaks Swedish when they first come here,I could have got you a job within a day.

If you want to start argue like one of your gang on threat about Cascadias gutless Merc engine from europe being the british expat owner operators ■■■■■■■■■ then I’m not interested…

Lets be precise - in CA my research was well done and deal I got on table was better than both of those these two discussed here before I jumped in.

Where as on your end I just went for it to see how it is over there and for very specific type of job  (also I had to kill some time)
My limitation factor has now been eliminated, but I have other factors to consider as well, my life is not just trucks like it is for majority on here.

Swedish, not Swedish, probably you are right, however there is pretty big camp on the opposite side of this opinion as well, Scandis do want you to pick up their language very quickly and all who work there know that, its not like in UK half of Cambridgeshire can have Polish as their first language… (I’m not Polish)

B & D Walters has ruined the lives of 2 guys I know, taking them on and them moving over, then being dropped like a stone and deported.

Correct me if I’m wrong but guessing English isn’t your first language , once again I have no idea where your random train of thought is coming from , share your experience and give us all a clue . Cascadias are a Surrey BC based truck requiring a pull start to operate , no appeal to me whatsoever

Sadly Pat, just 2 people of many that have been f@%k’d over by this company.

So are we to assume that you haven’t found anywhere that makes you happy kk? If so may I be so bold as to suggest that you stay in your home country, unless you didn’t like that either?

Gladstone, Manitoba

Not seen them about, but there are a couple on here from that area so no doubt they’ll be along later.

Almost every company in Canada will be keen to hire you, so make sure you do your research on the province you want to live in first, it’s really the most important thing. You won’t have a problem finding a company with an lmia that’s hiring.

Thank you, I’ve just started looking deeper into it and researching it all, I have a friend been out in Ontario for over 10 years who is also giving me advice

In Ontario you currently don’t qualify for pnp as a truck driver. This makes it unattractive to most people. There is always someone trying to get the Ontario labour board to change that but it’s hasn’t happened yet.
Ontario trucking mostly means Toronto, very expensive, very busy.
