Jackknifed lorry and me to the rescue.... almost

cieranc:
Nah, private work hourly rate on a wrecker is £60. So for a straight winch out, couple of hours work, £200 not far off the mark.

You’ve been using the recovery mans calculator again, 2 hours at £60 per hour comes to £120 on mine :grimacing:

£60.00 covers the labour the £80.00 left over pays for the truck and diesel and insurance ,Another section of the trade working on tight margins.

Mind on these wreckers cost £300k upwards to build, and average about 5 mpg. Last year we spent £20k on training alone. Then there’s the gear, which can’t be chanced. It has to be right, any signs of ageing or defects and it gets slung out.

Our profit margins are the tightest they’ve ever been, not just for us but right across the country, the recovery industry has taken a massive hit. The amount of long established operators who’ve ceased trading this year is very worrying. The fact we’ve been around for 40 years doesn’t mean we’ll be around next year!

Like you lads, it’s the cost of the diesel that’s crippling us. The rates we get paid have not increased in line with the cost of the diesel.

so to summarise, he had blocked half the road, so you decided to block the other half, then the police arrived and stated you had effectively closed the road :frowning: then you buggered off so half the roaed was reopened
RESULT

no, he had blocked the entire road! cars and the odd truck were squeezing round the back of his trailer using a bit of graveled area that was an entrance to a field making a hell of a mess, i couldnt just sit there and wait doing nothing to help so i thought having a go was a good idea, we tried it once and it didnt budge so we left it at that, part of the problem in society today is people who dont bother to help others, i was aware that things could go wrong but then things can go wrong stood at a bus stop…

well done that man, better than sitting there with your thumb up your arse
