Ive applied for trainee bus driver job

Don’t think it was 8 cyl., six-potter from memory. To be honest…we never did any repairs/servicing on it, just stood in a corner, ever-ready to recover broken down buses/coaches. She ALWAYS fired up ok & ran lovely. Would it have had a Gardner for sure, or were other engines fitted? I think gearbox was straight four or five-speed with crawler? Crash box!!!
I think exhaust silencer was directly under front bumper■■?

LGV manual will upgrade PCV auto to manual no matter which way around they are done

All that is going to be mute in the new year because a manual car licence will give any PCV or LGV auto the category in manual

so howcome my licence says cat d code 78

You have an automatic only PCV licence, under the new system coming in Jan. 2014 - restriction code 78 can be removed from your licence, should you apply to DVLA, giving you full, manual licence. Not sure of exact date this comes in…watch this space!!!

The worst decision you will ever make in your life is starting a career driving buses, as the guys have said its not taking driving situations personally its dealing with people who despise you and on occasion want to attack you or just generally abuse you.

The situations i needed to get my head round and also deal with in my time driving buses was like mental torture and makes many people ill.

Thats a bit of a generlisation there. IMHO its not everyone who is suited do driving buses you are obviously one of the people its not suited to. like i said before its all about attitude and having a thick skin. There are decent operators out there paying a decent wage. Its the way drivers are treated by managment that makes a driver hate the job.

The shifts do suit a lot of drivers.

Jayar in holywells road, also in Saxmundham are often looking for van drivers for car parts. with the car parts firms you would be best to call in person see the main man at each branch so they remember your face so that when somebody leaves you are fresh in their mind. pay is very low

I noticed a job advertised with Blue Arrow in W. Lothian .Drive a 3.5.tonner for £6.50 per hour.If it were a tardis and could go back 20 years it would be good money.I do the buses and have had old dears giving me home baking and would say there are worse jobs out there .

Ive applied to jayar a few times and each time nothing doing , ive sent e mails and my c/v into all the big ones , g s f , euro , bennetts etc even called in , but no luck , as for the low wage I assume it wld be minimum wage but if I got 40 hrs a week I could manage , as 4 buses , I reckon I would be ok with the job ,its not exactly London is Ipswich

I started out driving buses and I have to say I don’t feel I’ve done badly with my life. My advice to anyone starting out is don’t stay doing buses for too long. I did it in London for 6 years - 2 is more than enough.

Ricardo have you thought about flogging your car and buy a small fiesta van and doing courier work I know that hawk and ABC used to always need vans and their used to be a firm in Felixstowe always needing van drivers for the internal post around the docks clearing houses and customs

I’d agree with that, i got my class 2 and got out of it and try not to look back. The psv is there if i ever end up out of work which hopefully wont happen.

When I made tentative enquiries at a local parts company and queried the pay I was told, “Well it’s a woman’s job, really”.
Sexist or what?

I don’t want to do courier wrk , ive tried it before and could not get the deliverys completed in the time they allowed , prob because I wasn’t prepared 2 drive like lewis Hamilton, also could not use the electronic scanner thing , it was 2 complicated to me , and yes I seem to see all the parts drivers appear to be female , your right old ■■■■ you hardly see any men driving the vans , please don’t think im not wanting to work , but I know my capabilities and I just cant manage courier work , I went to yodel for an interview and was told I was expected to do an average of 125 deliverys a day plus collections in the time frame of 10 am to 5.30 pm all round the rural villages ,

Wing and a prayer:
Ipswich buses will always take on trainees and if you take your test with First you will be tied to them.

… For 2 years

Your confusing multi drop to courier work . 1 pick up one drop is the norm with courier work, stuff like documents court papers urgent parcels ect

You will find that there are too many couriers chasing too few parcels so they are all cutting each others throats and bringing the rates down.Does this sound familiar?

So why do people despise you & want to attack or abuse you, not happened to me in my 14yrs, the lads who have been attacked have had a attitude problem with passengers, I do loads of rough areas everyone is fine , they can show me a beer mat when they get on instead of a ticket , its up to the inspector if they get on to sort it, I let it go over my head. Seen every con going with dodgy passes & excuses brightens the day up, just don’t take anything personally everyone thinks you get loads of hassel & always getting spat at, its not like that.
Personally I’d say Arriva or Stagecoach are the best payers & not bad to work for depends if there near to you.

just had the telephone interview , strange questions I was aked ie why is it important to drive safely ? I would have thought the answer was obvious , but I went along with it and just explained why , they will get back to me in 2 weeks if ive passed the selection , and yep I agree with above post I will let the powers to be sort probs out that’s what there job is , im not holding my breath about being selected , ive applied for jobs and had interviews before and never got any good news , its so frustrating I have a clean licence and hgv experience and im not even being successful at getting a job as a delivery driver driving a van around

to ricardo: when asking why it’s important to drive safely - apart from obvious answers, they were probably after a response along the lines of: “A bus driver’s main consideration should always be the comfort & safety of his/her passengers”.

hi daz that’s basically what my reply was , I said its important to drive carefully as I have a duty of care to my passengers ensuring they are delivered safely and stress free ? hope that was the sort of answer they were expecting , also another ? they asked was can I give an example of giving good customer service .
I replied well yes when I was involved in the running of a small haulage company we had 1 of our trucks break down on route to a delivery , I took it upon myself to hire a replacement vehicle and drive to meet the driver of the broken down truck which was in a layby , and tranship goods frm the truck to the hire vehicle ensuring the customer was kept up to date as to the situation the delivery was made albeit a bit late , I stayed with truck until it was repaired then drove it back to our depot . I hope that was the right response to the ? she also asked have I any concerns about the job , I replied the main worry I have is being nervous on the test because although I can drive a artic I find driving a rigid is a different ball game and they have completely diff characteristics to an artic ie reversing , and turning circle , that is my main concern I said ■■ and I did ask about skid pan training tbh she didn’t really know what I was on about ? I assumed you go on a skid pan to learn how to control a bus in a skid ? hope I didn’t come across to inquisitive ?
