This new Opticruise has the Eco roll system, it will cut the power before you crest a hill so the momentum takes you over the crest and then you rebuild your speed as you descend, only trouble is that it seems to want to loose a lot off speed before you crest the hill, which don’t sit well with me on our congested roads, all right in the early hours, but I find myself overriding it in the daytime.

I override it every single time. It’s dangerous. Whoever passed that feature needs shooting.
I nearly got rammed off the road not so long back by an angry paddy who thought, because I’d slowed down, then sped up again as he overtook(not me, the truck), that I was playing games with him.

You could always try knocking the cruise off once it’s clear that a vehicle that pulled out whilst you were travelling slowly was overtaking you. Every little helps you know George!

Its not that the cruise control is speeding you up(though the system does this just before you’re about to climb a hill), its because the system cuts the power just before you go over the brow off a hill, thus you loose speed, then as you descend the hill momentum takes over and you regain your speed, the cruise control only cuts back in when you have attained your previous set speed, or the descent has started to flatten out before you have attained your previous set speed.

But as both George and I pointed out, we both override the system when we see a danger to road safety,

Absolutely Eddie, I wasn’t having a pop at George tbh. The point I was trying to make is that we can’t alter how the lorry works, but we can alter how we work the lorry.

If you put the opticruise in A it should be disabled. or a least it doesn’t slow down half as much as it does in AE.
If you also got the Retarder you can select the how much it slows down before the crest and so on with the retarder button.

I drove a 620 streamline a couple of weeks before I got the truck I drive now. Like it apart from the new seats. They now use the same brand as Volvo and they are just as crap as in a Volvo. From Isringhausen to crappy Recaro seats :frowning: . It also did have the bigger bed but I really couldn’t see the use for it. I left it in it’s smallest position every night.

The A option drops less speed than the AE option, the P (power) option disables it but I dont like using that for cruising. The main problem is that UK motorways/dualcarriageways are to congested most off the day, to be able to get the full effect from eco-roll. It just seems to be a problem for other road users, and I can see why

Dont have the retarder on mine, shame but thats fleet spec for you.

Got to agree about the seats in the Scania, but I liked the seats in the Volvo I had before this truck. Obviously the 620 is somewhat higher specced than a fleet spec 440. Even the coffee maker has packed up now :unamused:

Well put it in MP then . It won’t use any more fuel as long as you are in the same gear but put it back to A/M or ME AE before a gear change to save fuel.

Never driven a fleet truck. Don’t know how they are speced. But the once I seen around the Nordic country for fleets usually have quite good option list.

The tuned 620 (750hp+ , how anyone can live with less hp i beyond my knowledge  ) type 2 I have as my “own” right now is really nothing special option wise, has what you need thats about it.

I allways use 230v coffe makers. The 24v Waeco are so ■■■■■■■ slow you are wasting the hole brake waiting for the coffe to get made.

coffe, water boiler and micro wave all on 230v.

Yeah could do, but I find it just as easy to tap the CC button on the steering wheel, this overides eco-roll straight away

I’m being a bit bitchy, I actualy like my truck (440 topline) apart from the seats and bed not being as comfy as an FH, but the truck as a whole is better to live in(4-5 nights away per week). quite a good options package aswell really

Yeah, I could only dream  only had one V8 but that was a few years ago now, though I guess I’m not running at quite as high weights as you might be.

My Coffeemaker is/was quite slow, now packed up, hoping to get a new one on warranty. Now got my stove back into make Tea/Coffee. Got expensive last week buying Coffee :open_mouth: .

Never understood why there is so many complaining about the cab. It is if you ask me ONE OF the best to live in. And every button is placed right, it just falls in your hand.
Driven Volvo ( they are so small and plastic) Iveco, nice and big but not even a year and everything had already started to fall apart and the truck was really looked after. MB cab is quite nice but top bed as main. Nah I like the bottom bed so you can lay down a while and just look around at the surrounding but then you loose the point of how the cab is designed.

The big HP trucks are bought because of winter. The higher speed you can keep going up a hill the less chance there is getting stuck. Been to many places this winter where I would been stuck if I had a 400hp truck

When roads look like this and you are grossing 50t you need the HP if you don’t want to be dealing with chains at every mountain youtube.com/watch?v=IBzeNFFraJ4
