Auto boxes are cheaper to produce. But it is true auto boxes will be the future there seen as been reliable. You will still be able to buy a manual truck but you will have to stump up the extra for it.All the artics at the test centre where I went were all autos
Personally I’d always choose manual for car/bike, auto for truck. When I was learning to drive a truck it was double declutch to change, when you got it right it was smooth as ■■ and sounded great, gimme an autobox every time now though.
Can I drive a manual artic though even though I took my artic test in an auto.Took my car test in a manual and took my rigid test in a manual also

Thanks for answering that lol
I have drove a few autos recently and find them great for general haulage, but I think manuals will always be needed for skip, concrete and when u need to shunt. Found the autos tend to surge when in tight spots, anyone agree?
only manual gearboxs here balls to auto rubbish. All these newbies on autos as taken the talent out of the job. Sum very bad robot like drivers out there now its shocking.

Not really. My work is farm deliveries, mostly 8-wheel curtainsider with Moffett but I do bulk blowers as well. Probably do a bit more shunting than some, and definitely a lot more dodgy tracks and yards.
When we first went to i-shifts everybody reckoned they’d be stuck as soon as the first snowflake dropped. They’ve proved just as good if not better than the manuals.
I learn’t in an auto. My first time in a manual truck was by myself at night. Both times for a 4 over 4 and a knock over. You’ve done the hard part, learning the gears is easy.
