hi hiltop them picture of sharpies has made my day. my dad drove a t reg sed atki just like that one on the docks then whent on to a daf 2800. his name is stephen hartley
Hi Hartly,
Glad you enjoyed the pics…I also remember the big DAF wagons too. I recall that in the early 90s, just before Sharpies packed up, they were on Carlton industrial estate, and their fleet at this time was pre-dominantly DAF 95s…same colour scheme though.
Dad also seems to think that in the very early days, they used to have a number of Blue tractor units too…too early for my memory though I’m afraid.
Hi James & Alan Got your message from a friend of mine about being on trucknet finally remembered my password, as he told you yes I work for myself and have a Volvo FH 12 will put photos of it and also some photos of Trowbridges mandators along with some of Sharps (my sed Atki & also my Daf) Not spoken to your Uncle John for a while but I think he has seen the truck. In reference to an earlier comment about Jack it was a flat cap he always wore and in reference to the AEC’s he drove the 4 wheeler OWJ 860F and the AEC Marshall RWE 62E a 6 wheeler as enthusiasts will know were 2 of the fastest vehicles to come out of Sheffield. Dad was also a trained mechanic who could make an engine sing hence the speed they all had 80 as max speed but those 2 motors would go beyond it. he also had a number of Mandators on the night trunk that when Dad knew he was keeping them they to were up to speed.Just to comment on something Steve Hartley’s son said about the blue Sed Atkis that Sharpie had EHE 642V 643V & 644V were all painted sky blue with the pepsi logo all over them. Will add more when I get time. Regards Les Turton

Hi Les, nice to be in touch Alan Dean here. I was hoping you might be able to help with any photos you have.
I would love to see the Trowbridge pics you have and any other local to Barnsley area, I have never come across any pics of Redfearns Scania 110s
on the internet. As Im sure you know I like to draw trucks, so if you can help it would be great to draw something from our past!
Did a quick drawing of your Barry,s Tom Roberts ages ago I will post it up soon but in the meantime I have just finished a picture of my own Trowbridge 6 legger, dont know if they ran any. John told me you got a new Volvo, if you are ever up near Brough A66 we live in Kirkby Stephen these days, better cycling territory.

Ok…I just new a Fred Turton from Wombwell thats all.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I also believe that Sharpies had a number of plain Blue curtain sider’s too??
I also seem to remember that they carried a lot of British Gypsum plaster boards to building sites?
Found this one in my archives the other day…I know its not Sharpies, but just down the road from them, and thought it would be of interest to you. Sorry about the quality of the pic

Im James Dean, nephew of John Dean from Cudworth, Alan Dean being my dad. We have both had a keen interest in trucks, we are particularly interested in old pictures of Barnsley Truck firms. Me and Alan are keen model makers and we also draw trucks.
We are interested in seeing pictures of the Trowbridge Aec Mandators of Sheffield. We are also on the look out for Coopers tankers at Shafton, Duncan Sharp at Carlton. Redfearn National Glass Scania 110s.
Alan used to work for Whitehead trailers at Carlton/Barugh Green and also Alko at Carlton Industrial Estate opposite BOC which is now Gist. Alan then went on into a model truck building business called Modeltrux making white metal trucks and trailers in kit form then moved on to painting code 3 models in a variety of local yorkshire firms such as Pete Osborne, Reg Jefferies of otley, Viamaster Transport, Mcfarlane etc
If you are on here Les, I have a picture of you and my Uncle John in front of a Fearns Volvo f88James and Alan Dean
I have included a picture of my drawing of a Scammell Trunker. This truck comes to our local truck and bus rally at Kirkby Stephen in ■■■■■■■ which is where we now live.
