Mr B:
without knowing all the details it’s hard to know what to say. i wouldn’t put myself between theifing scum and my load but if in doubt if they die they die, it’s their choice to go robbing.
my sympathies are with the driver.
Yeah mine too! where are the police when you really need them? In certain countries you are a hero if you kill some thieving varmint.
The Police are under obligation to arrest in these circumstances, and we dont know the full details yet.
What kind of knife, why was it being carried, did he had any other option other than challenging them etc ie run away, drive off, did he have to leave his cab or could he keep himself in there and call the police, with such little information its impossible to know what actually happened.
They automatically arrest for Murder and if the circumstances change it can be downgraded, they arrest for the higher and charge with what is deemed fit after interview.
All comes down to intention!
Unfortuately i doubt more info will come to light until either charge and the court case or it if deemed no further action is taken.

it looks like they were hi-jackers not slashers
if thats the case, he was defending himself and his property.
let him go, he’s done the world a service.
My thoughts exactly, the thieving little gits got what they deserved.
Yep - It’s hardly a loss to the human race that the scumbag died. It’s a shame the driver didn’t finish the job off properly and kill 'em all!
I was just reading this story in the Mirror whilst waiting for my curry to be cooked. It was a Greek driver, the truck was his own and he was awoken by a torch light. Aparrently he was claiming that he was dealt a blow to the head and he used a knife to defend himself, and obviously his truck.
I hope the driver gets some very understanding and empathetic treatment from out justice system, otherwise our justice system is not worth it’s salt.
This was bound to happen sooner or later, but all credit to the lorry driver for having a go.
I sincerely hope our justice system treats him fairly, but from past experience, I feel his best course of action should have been to
say sod the tacho and just get out of there.
Lets hope our National/Commercial press, and associations give this item the publicity it needs so,that people outside of our industry sit up & take note, as to whats happening to goods vehicles and their drivers up and down this country of ours, every night!
[wont hold my breath]
I know i’m sick but i find it really funny I can’t get the image out of my head of them going out with baseball bats on the rob and all ending up at hospital sreaming and crying we’ve all been stabbed !!
I can’t help thinking that the law as it stands is not going to be in the driver’s favour.
That is, if the robbers had been in the tailer getting at the load and the driver left the cab with a knife to fight the robbers off. Under the law I don’t think his actions could be deemed as justified or reasonable.
It would have been reasonable force used if the robbers went to the cab and were robbing the driver himself.
I found this website. It may help explain the law a bit better.

We don’t know what happened, if you’ve got 3 men in your cab threatening you with god knows what you might not be able to just jump out and run off, besides god knows what personal belongings he had in his cab, he’s a european tramper so it’s his home effectively. Assuming they really were trying to hijack his truck and threatened him with violence and smacked him round the head then the guy deserves a medal. As people say, they went out robbing they can’t complain when things went bad, I just know that he’s gonna wind up in the ■■■■, makes you sick.
jessicas dad:
to be fair with the greek driver maybe his load wasnt insured so he couldn afford to let them get away with anything. also another point maybe that the knife may turn out to be some sort of samurie sword or rambo knife
It would be better for the driver if the knife that was used belonged to the robbing scum.
My initial thoughts would be to stay in the cab and call the police,
but they would have been to busy watching their ANPR cameras to attend.
So then you would have to get out to protect your load.
As I said in a previous post I will chuck £20 towards his legal costs

Me too.
the driver deserves a medal and all the help he needs and deserves.
I’m sure it was a terrifying experience for the driver. I hope it doesn’t mess with his head too much. That sort of thing can trigger PTSD and he could get flashbacks and all sorts of screwed up stuff.
It’s hard to know how each of us would react if we were put in that situation. I would imagine your survival instincts just kick in. I know that I would just get out as quick as i can. Drive over them if you have to. A lad I know well woke up one night to find a ■■■■■ stealing his diesel. He jumped into the drivers seat started the lorry, put it in reverse and rammed the ■■■■■’s van parked behind him and then got the ■■■■ outta there.
He phoned the police and all that. Never heard anything about it but at least the ■■■■■ got a bill for the diesel!
I was talking to a driver yesterday who runs out of the yard where this all happened . Apparentley the Greek driver and another family member are owner drivers they do the same run on a weekly basis and are a couple of really nice guys. It worries me to think it is going to be his word against 2 pond life . On top of this I dont have much faith in our police. If this had happened in Greece I wonder who would be in jail?
