It took me five days training to pass my Class one (as it was then). Hardly a “Professional” qualification.

The new Driver CPC will not be recognised as any sort of accolade as there are no exams or tests.

Humm good point I suppose… Although not everyone can simply jump in a cab and train to be a driver, some just arnt suited to it. Just like im not suited to the job of brain surgeon.
Whats been said about “professional drivers” is right though… were effectively nothing in many peoples eyes until theres a problem, then we are “professional drivers” who should know better!
Like the time some old ■■■■ blocked himself in coming down a narrow street that I was already part way down going the other way.
He shouted " your suppost to be a professioanl driver, this isnt very professional of you! Are you a professional driver?!"
I replied “no, i just steal lorries”
Anyway, back on topic… A HGV class 1/2 isnt classed as the equilivant of a GCSE or A level? I can take that as fact and lay this rumour to rest?

HGV and PCV mean you are a professional driver.Taxi drivers van drivers cant say the same. They just drive for a living. That’s what “professional” means.
Sometimes its like waiting in a drivers room on here, i just sit there with a big grin on my face and everyone thinks i’m soft !!
You really couldn’t make this stuff up.
cant really add to that
just realised i’m a professional tv watcher, i pay for a license and spend the rest of my time working out how to get the best 4 or 5 channels out of the 100’s available

It does not even have an NVQ2 status![]()
Stagecoach are doing NVQs in bus driving…
having an LGV licence at a basic level entitles you to drive trucks.
but it also leads to basic skills in ,
diplomacy,
social work.
and of course fall guy/girl
all unrecognised skills but most valued by employers.
especially the last one.

Does this include the skilled technique of watching somebody running for the bus, then pulling away when they’re almost at the bus stop, leaving them breathless as you pull away? At this point they are waving goodbye
Tiger.
who gives a toss anyway…
Well, I’VE got an NVQ in Heavy Goods Vehicle Logistics (for what that’s worth!)
I’d been driving 4-wheelers for a good few years when I decided to pack my job in and go with an agency who placed me with a certain client. 5 months down the line the ‘certain client’ asked if I’d like a full-time job with them, but since the position was salaried I’d have been losing about 60 quid a week compared with the agency money. The gaffer said ‘I’ll put you through your Class 1 if that helps.’ It did.
2 1/2 years later I finally got the promised Class 1 which my employers had discovered went with the aforementioned NVQ at zero cost to themselves.
Still, at least I got a free Class 1 out of it
