commonrail:
sets of stats and figures can be misleading.if you asked 100 drivers who regularly drive in urban areas.
“how many times in a year have you had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with a badly ridden cycle”…those figures would paint an entirely different picture.
Probably right but there are probably as many cyclists that have to take evasive action to avoid a badly driven car or truck.
I know I have more problems with vehicles when I am cycling than I do with cyclists when I anm a driving a truck or car!
Maybe I am unlucky or maybe some can only see it one way!
albion1971:
I wonder if you do the same when you see a car or a truck with a light out or with no lights at all? Or are you obsessed with everything cyclists do wrong like some others on here.
Perhaps he does, who knows. The difference being that a truck with one headlight out, still has another, it has side lights and marker lights, thus making it still blatantly visible to everyone and even if someone does manage to miss the other lights and collide with said truck, the driver of that truck with the blown headlight bulb isn’t anywhere near as likely to get killed as his truck is shunted, in the same way that a cyclist, totally invisible from the front is, as they get catapulted through the air and potentially die as a result. As a cyclist yourself, and someone who jumps on the defensive bandwagon at every opportunity, surely you should be pleased that a truck driver has tried saving one of your own from a potentially lethal situation in the making by what can only be described at reckless behavior on their own part.
Anyway, there have been lots of complaints on here in the past several years about car and fellow truck drivers doing silly things like driving with their front fogs on, driving with full main beam going towards oncoming traffic and having lights out. But then this is a truck drivers forum so you’d expect anything that affects a truck driver in his daily work and the experiences he has during that time to be spoken about on here.
+1
He is just stuck on the same record and anything that relates to driving he/she or whatever it is will come on here and say the same thing
Mickey have you got your own opinion because I rarely see it.Only one lane on a motorway was probably about the only time you gave a response and we all know about that!
Believe it or not this forum is driving related and this time I am talking about cyclists not motorways, not tailgaters nor drivers hours.
It is a pity you do not have a record to get stuck on mickey…

Maybe you have shown a mindset here that you might decry in others? If you have more problems when cycling could it not be a lack of anticipation or awareness on your part when cycling? Don’t cycle very often but I am ultra defensive when on 2 wheels simply because of my own vulnerability. I also find I have a better vision at night when on 2 wheels as I don’t have dashboard lights and reflections on the windscreen/windows affecting my night vision.

I am keen cyclist as well, I used to cycle in Poland, I do it here, and I have perfectly opposite observations. Drivers who do something stupid are rare, while cyclist ignoring their own safety is common feature.
But I am a strange cyclist. I use lights and I have reflective stickers on my bike, I look behind when changing lanes and give way, I signal with hands when I want to turn or change the lane, I dont’ jump from the pavement onto the busy road, I don’t slalom between moving traffic…

It is no wonder so many cyclists are being killed, and I suspect a large percentage are at fault but car and especially truck drivers will always get the blame.
Maybe that is because quite often they are at fault.Read the figures and why the drivers at at fault more than the cyclists instead of your biased opinion.
I would see that as common sense not biased opinion.
we know there are plenty off bad drivers, off all sorts off vehicles, but the drivers off vehicles reguiring a license to drive have santions levvied against them, and they still behave badly. The cyclists have only death or serious injury to look forward too if they behave badly. Call me old fashioned if you like, but I think that death or serious injury would concentrate my mind into ways to protect myself, after all points are spent after 3 years, a tombstone or wheelchair is for life
I saw a crazy cyclist last Friday ,slow moving traffic approaching the island on the dual carriageway on the a34 by trentham gardens .An artic was in front of me with two cars in between us I had just overtaken this cyclist so I was aware of him when he suddenly decides to go on the outside of me and when he gets to the island he is half way up the trailer of the artic that as started to go over the island.well if it had of been jonny foreigner turning right in the left hand lane it could of got messy but both were going straight on,anyway in the end he never had the legs to overtake the artic so he had to pullback in behind him when I went past him again I thought what a (zb) why did you put yourself in that scenario

Actually this is a TRUCK driving forum with views represented from Truck drivers I.e if you went where you belong the gods gifts to cyclist forum they’ll be slagging off truck and cars like we do Cars and bikes.
Difference between a bad car driver and a bad cyclist is the car drivers have some idea there doing wrong actually in studying or practising and passing a theory test & a driving test demostrating they can use a vehicle to a safe standard without putting in danger themselfs or other motorists, Most cyclist are just stupidly ignorant, Don’t know about rights of way (apart from the one they’ve got more rights then motor vehicles) never picked up a highway code or understand what a dangerous situation there actually in with a lorry. Hell you can lose a car in a blind spot let alone a big unless your mirror’s show people ego’s

I invite you to go on the cycling forums and see if this statement is true?
Have you ever wondered if a poster who dare gives a balanced view on here that, that poster might be a LGV driver and a cyclist
Any forum which has anybody slagging off any road user tends to be a trucking related one.

Well there no point going on the forums as you tube is full of Lycra wearing nutters who scream out Registration plates riding around looking for arguments. You’ll find the well mannered, sensible cyclists tends not to be the ones lecturing people on who’s got more rights to the road as they take enjoyment from cycling rather then trying to ram it down other people throats like a religion (on the 6th day god created the cyclist, The 7th day was a day of rest due to him already creating perfection all other forms of transport shall be deemed inferior )
A balanced view is fine though there’s the odd one or 2 cycle trolls on here (one of them is posting above the other is you) who just bait and post superior cyclist crap for a reaction then force there own views down peoples throats (on a truck forum the no1 enemy in the eyes of the cyclist) then start a personal attack when someone disagrees fair doo’s he can have a opinion not debating that but if your going to post on a forum and take offence and get ■■■■■ when someone disagrees with you
Oh nice avatar change btw kind of proves my point you went from a guy on a bike to a NO truck sign
And you pair wonder why people pick on you when you lecture them? no worries your other friends will be back on soon no doubt to make me see the error of my ways and why I shouldn’t have a driving licence etc
No, he’ll only take sensible opinion. I am a trucker AND a cyclist myself, and I think your point of view is very far from being balanced.
Also: most “slagging other road users” I found on the cyclist related forums, that’s why I don’t go there any more, because I could not bare the amount of crap written there.

If you seriously think your view if balanced get your head checked. there’s a handy function called view my previous posts (if you need to review some of your “personal” attacks for people disagreeing with you)
I remember been called a moron who shouldn’t have a licence for suggestion cyclists should have to complete a test in order to use the road and have insurance and have some identifying mark.this was also around the time that teen lost her 2 front teeth due to a cyclist been where he should’t and the police unable to trace him (how is that balanced? cause I questioned your superior right?) Yes I understand all drivers have the ability to drive poorly (knowingly or unknowing) but to be able to use the road they’ve passed a basic test of competence. Vehicles have to be insured and tested to ensure there roadworthy, and identifiable.
To answer the next post rather then create a new one well its you or one of the others but you all just gang up on the people that oppose you for one
but no the personal attacks is albion1971 & waynedl to name names but he’s not taken part in this one yet…
But unfortunately you jump to his defence so your grouped the same

Can you find where I’ve personally attack anybody?
If not,
Then can you stop spreading lies about posters as that’s just not nice.

In fairness, a lot of cycle lanes are very poorly designed and badly sited, often next to a row of parked cars which leaves cyclists vulnerable to being knocked off by anyone suddenly flinging open their car door. I occasionally commute from Ross on Wye into Gloucester by bike and there’s one cycle lane at traffic lights on the Bristol Road which I always ignore, as it places the cyclist on the left hand side of a lane of left turning traffic while the cycle lane continues straight on.
There are self righteous twits on bikes out there, and there are far too many cyclists dressed in black with no lights on, but those who know what they’re doing usually have a very good reason for avoiding cycle lanes.
K5project has been given 4 days to prove his accusations.
Which the poster hasn’t been able to!
Read the post before, not that I’ve not proved anything its the fact you can’t read
Yes you personally haven’t attacked anyone but you jump to the defence of your fellow perfect cyclists when they do. So no you haven’t but you’ve encourage/egged on others what do end of the day your just a cycle troll like the rest

I don’t think he’s obsessed, he just informed another road user that they had no front light. When one headlight blew on my journey to work the other week I had plenty of people kindly flash me to inform me of the fact.
On unlit rural roads a cyclist without a front light just disappears into the blackness when you are overtaking them in an artic, but I’m sure most of them don’t realise this and think that provided they have a rear light they can be seen and are safe.

I’ve never thought that a few feet of road on the left hand side of the carriageway was a good idea. It pushes the cyclist into a pinch point, and there are to many obstacles, park vehicles (probably illegaly), Or bus stops, that then means they have to get into the main carraigeway it also puts down the left hand side of a truck. Especially at junctions and then there are normally pedestrian railings tat means there isn’t an escape route.
I know is not practical everywhere but proper cycle lanes that separate cyclists from motor vehicles would be far better. Perhaps developing them for routes to schools could be a start, might encourage more people to let their children make there own way to school instead of doing the school run causing more congestion.
