Used to do 4h30m regular (Glenrothes to the Derry) and bang it straight onto break when stopped and never had an infringement, from compliance in the office or DVSA but, as tachograph says, sometimes it can jump to 4h31m and bite you. Tends to happen if you run to the upper half of 4h30 rather that switching to break when 4h30m has just registered.
Unsure if tacho’s calculate to 30s but I found on my stopwatch, if I selected break after 4h30m30s then it would register as 4h31m on a printout.
Easisest way is always think about pulling in at 4h25m if you bothered about infringements.
