More and more roundabouts are being built on the N and D roads in France every year. Unfortunately, the French are not very good at indicating at roundabouts. What really annoys me is that when slowing down at a roundabout, another vehicle is coming on to the roundabout from your left (90 degrees) without indicating, so you assume that it will at least travel straight on, but, oh no, it turns first right (basically going up the road that I have approached on) and I have stopped just in case he carries on. What I do now is when traffic is approaching from opposite me (180 degrees) on a large roundabout, unless they are indicating that they are coming right round, I assume that they will be going straight on and therefore pull out. If they do come on round, then tough, they should have indicated and will have to wait!
Someone mentioned the new indicating techniques are to allow faster vehicles to overtake on the roundabout. All well and good if there is room but more often than not there isn’t and I am always looking for cars coming up the inside on narrow roundabouts. I find it best to straddle both lanes if driving with a trailer but still that doesn’t always stop them from trying to overtake.
