If you were a transport manager

A few good replies above!! So Rob, do you have an ulterior motive for the question? Was it you drinking one??

So you have noticed his forum avatar too

Would I think anything of it - yes. Would I do anything - probably not unless already concerned about the driver for other reasons!

i doubt you could get over the limit however much shandy you drank because with all the water content in relation to the alchohol you would ■■■■ it out quicker than it kicked in.

One of our (ex) drivers was found asleep with a can of special brew in hand :open_mouth:

in my last managerial post, I’d have to think was the driver trying to cover a drink problem up by drinking shandy. Company policy would have him out of th door on suspension pending enquiries

“I’m suspending you (unpaid obviously) as you were seen drinking from a can of shandy” And people wonder why GB is going down the pan.

That is the absolute truth.

Asking to crack open another for me and ask him if he wants two’s on my joint

I wouldn’t do sod all :unamused:

Rob K:
If you were a transport manager and saw one of your drivers drinking a can of shandy whilst working, would you think anything of it?

if it was nice shandy i would ask for a spare one if he had one[LOL]

alamcculloch:
Well I admit after hand balling a load of kegs and crates I was glad of a hand shandy from a pub landlord.I would not drink and drive ,but a hand shandy is very refreshing.

Sorry, I’ll get my coat.

Hand shandy??

Shandy in cans is so low alcohol level it is sold to children with no problems. I miss it living here, I used to love a can on a hot day bak in the UK … and no ! … I woud say nothing.

It was. I bought a can on my way to work as I fancied one for a change. Sat in the cab with the door open chatting to another driver I saw the TM heading in my direction so thought it best to hide the can just in case. For the record I wouldn’t give a toss either, but having seen the anti-everything’s on this site froth about there needing to be a zero alcohol tolerance for drivers and labelling anyone a danger to society if so much as a drop passes their lips then I thought it best to be on the safe side and not risk having that “discussion” with him.

I must say though, this post did make me laugh :

Not-sure-if-serious…

We had a drivers fridge in the traffic office with beer in it, always handy when you nipped in for a trailer swap in the day.

Most German and Austrian factories have a beer machine next to the coffee machine.

in my last managerial post, I’d have to think was the driver trying to cover a drink problem up by drinking shandy.

Why would you HAVE to think that?
Most people would assume that the person was thirsty and preferred shandy to other cans of pop.
If you saw someone taking a pill at work would you HAVE to think he was a junky or would you just assume he had a headache and was taking an aspirin

SWEDISH BLUE:
What about the Manager or Director who has a “company lunch”?

one rule for them :imp: liquid lunch no problem! :smiling_imp:

In the old days when we could pick and choose our work dray wagon drivers often had a pint or two at the drops.H and S has stopped all of that,no one will get near the limit drinking shandy.A beer at each drop is out nowadays.

Reading between the lines on Robs recent posts on the forum it sounds as he wants to get someone sacked as he needs a job.

FFS no.

I’d have to sack him and recommend the court sanction a one time return of the death penalty an have him shot at dawn.

It’s a soft drink for Jesus Christ almighty’ sake.

No different to a can of Fanta.

Shandy bass is the most refreshing beverage especially as I don’t have any in the house and now I really fancy one.

Say nothing as they can of shandy isn’t exactly all that strong not commercial shandy anyway. However I would maybe say don’t have anything stronger and leave it at that depending on what mood I was in
