I have a job trial next week!

There aint half some bollox talked on this site.

The bloke has tried to get work and hasnt got anywhere, now he is getting desperate and is willing to do a days work for free to prove that he is worth taking on, and then gets called a mug by some halfwit on the internet ?

Good luck to the OP, though starting off on 7.5t multidrop he is probably going to need all the luck he can get

You don’t have to be a halfwit to think that working for nothing is a mugs game.

I wish the OP luck but I still think he’s a mug for working two days for free.

As a kid, I worked school holidays and weekends for diddly squat in a haulage yard and a coach operator’s garage. At the time, I was told I was a mug.

But the fact is that the knowledge I gained then has helped me earn a living for the last 40+ years.

So, although I fully understand and appreciate the negative argument, I prefer to look on it as investing a day in your future.

Good luck, Pete

Thank you, it’s very much the way I’m looking at things, even if they don’t take me on I’ll have gained a bit of knowledge about the industry, because at the moment I have none!

Go for it @Brown. I am currently looking for a job and would jump at the chance of a bit of extra experience that may lead to a job. Good luck.

Yes but you were a kid offering to watch and learn.not a adult actually doing the job for free for two shifts and maybe more if they say so.i understand he is desprate bud would he workfor free in his current job but iam only a halfwit

@Brown:
…this company has been advertising for a 7.5 tonne driver for months now…

:open_mouth:

Could it be that they get people to do a couple of days work for free and then give somebody else a chance to “prove themselves” for free and so on and so forth? Great business model.

Just putting it out there.

After the first day with another driver they know if your ok.asking for you to work for a full shift by yourself for free is just taking the pee out of you.the people who say go for it have no dignity in my book but then again making they like living on there knees begging

I had an interview yrs back, and as the interview didnt go as well as planned, I turned to the boss on the way out and said if he took me on for a day of his choice to do a job he wanted me to do, I would do it for nothing! He laughed and said he’d think about it, got a phone call a week later, and was asked in to work that “day for nothing” that day led to 4 years full time employment and I got paid for the day I offered for nothing in cash the day I left them, and him laughing saying he will never forget the day a man offered to do a days work for nothing!

.

Joyed go get your hole a calm down you ■■■■■

Whats next will he pay for the fuel he uses as he isnt really working for them yet.i havent got a problem with doing a day to see how it goes but he is doing two days for god sake

These days its every man for himself,if working a day for free is what you have to do to get the job, then do it.

Of course its taking the pee,but lots of people take the pee ( in other ways ) get the job laddie and make sure you get the day you

worked for free back,by other means.

Look out for number 1 - its the only way !

Working for free is taking the pishh , i know some polski’s who wouldnt even do that, mind you fair enough show willing by doing one days trial but their really taking the biscuit by asking you to work another day for free. its bad enough out their, .

I would have asked em after day one if i got the job or not , and if they want to take me on a probationary period then fair enough aslong as i’m getting a wage for it, and if it dont work out… i’ll gladly shake ya hand and move on without any hard feelings.
