Onloading by K.L.M. Cargo at Schiphol.

By whiplash_012 at 2008-11-08.Really sorry for the poor quality of the photo Bert,in the background you will see a Mercedes 1617,in the livery of a company called Roadspeed. This company was bought by Frans Maas,in the early 90`s,and is now part of the DSV/DFDS empire. They were a big player in Ireland/UK groupage, with regular trailer departures.Their trailers were all prefixed with the numbers FLY 101,102 etc.Sorry about the poor quality, will try to get better photos.

I no that Frans Maas Waddinxveen had linehall trips to Ireland and later from Venlo. From the company Roadspeed i did no anything it’s a new part off the story Frans Maas. I wait to see some more off the company Roadspeed.
Below 2 pictures off Irish trucks driving for Frans Maas. One taken by me at Venlo in 2007.

Hello to everyone on here!!! I was serching the web for old truck photo’s and came across this site and !!! WOW !!! What a great site. I had to join… Well
my name’s Dave, but most people know me as ( WAGSY)…And I worked for Frans Maas Brownhills in the 90s…And i would like to help and put a couple of
records straight without treading on anybodies toe’s…I used to drive the one and only tractor unit that Frans Maas Brownhills owned ,A Scania 112. (photo’s to follow when i’ve sussed how to post them on here)…And yes as was quoted
before all but one truck! mine, were subcontractors,or owner drivers,Roadway International, and T,Nichol being the main two subbies, they had about 15 lorries each in there…With roadway doing Italy,Switzland, and dutch express. And Nichol doing Germany,Spain, and German express…There’s a couple of photo’s i recognize,The Scania outside Frans Maas Brownhills depot. reg no… M500 AGS Belonging to my mate Alex…who i believe is no longer with us.R.I.P.
I have’nt seen him since i was made redundent in 97…And I believe he went to work at Anglo- overseas when Frans Mass got rid of there manageing director
Ian Edgar…And he went to Anglo-Overseas and took a lot of work with him…And that’s where I was led to believe Alex rolled that Scania in France on his way to
do his normal Italian run…Well I hope that I have jogged some memories…I have lots to tell but i must get back to work and I’ll chat soon… I hope the info has been good to someone… And keep on trucking…Wagsy…

Hello Dieselcowboy and Wheel Nut,

Thanks for positioning the picture of the tanktrailer. I now we had in the years back tanktrailers for plastic in bulk. My question are this oil/chemie tanktrailers? Found pictures and i think it’s chemie for DSM. My zelf did plenty of trips from DSN Hook of Holland to DSM in Landskrona in Sweden. Only this cargo was in drums.

Welcome to the forum Dave (Wagsy).

Sorry to here about Alex, I’d actually forgotten about him, ran with him a few times, funny how memory fades over the years, but once an ember sparks the old grey cells, how much comes back.

I used to run out of FM Manchester for Lee Durose, used to come into Brownhills sometimes on my way through.

Regards
Ant

Hi Wagsie,
not sure which era you are talking about, but Brownhills ran the trucks in Brantano livery (as DSV still do), they were FM run not subbies.
I promise I will buy a scanner soon, then I can put all my FM pics on here!

Hi ya dieselcowboy…Well the era i’m on about, would be 90 to 97,When i was made redundent by Frans Maas…It was some bright spark from holland that said they did’nt need there own truck to try and save money, in the early 90s…But it was brought to there attention that they needed a operators licence to operate trailers from the depot…So they kept the truck and me…But then in 97,
One of the main subbies (i.e) Roadway International, said that Frans Maas could use there ‘o’ licence…And i was out…And went to work for T.Nichol doing the same job but less money…And i left Nichols in 98…So the Brantano came after i’d left, but they were on about putting a price in for the job when i was there,I think it was Paul Robinson that Got the contract and ran it…Not sure on the surname though,Just remember Paul…And yeah your right they leased the trucks and had them painted in Brantano colours…My mate’s Sheba and Goeff
still work there…Anyway you keep on truckin and we’ll chat soon…And thanks for the message… Wagsy…

I remember was that a BREG 112m■■?

My dad and Alex worked together thru P&O on Frans Maas for Russell Turner.

4years steady with theIr M.A.N’S…

Every week down to Milano to Roberto at Somasi with all the hazardous from Birmingham.

When P&O stopped both Alex & dad were offered to become ownerdrivers.
Alex bought his own truck

then later

and it was this truck that near Calais Alex swerved for a car and ended up down a ditch .

Meantime my dad took his space to Roadway and drove GEO 1 X - A rough 141 before getting F270 YOM a brandnew 113m.
