The trouble with take home pay comparisons is that youāre not comparing apples with apples, and looking only at whats in the packet is the reason some companies get away with paying peanuts, their drivers are doing 2 weeks work every week AND counting exās/subsistence as part of their pay in order to kid themselves theyāre doing well.
There is one fair formula for comparison purposes, ignore subsistence money and the hours that covers for this (itās merely a small bribe to sleep in a tin can and protect the load/vehicle), divide your top line by the total hours you are at work to arrive at a mean hourly rate.

Correct!

so your saying
Top line Ā£805.57
Hrs 68.75
805.57 div 68.75 =Ā£11.71 p.h
Surely thereās more to it than just that ( if Iām reading you right ) ,is it 5 or 6 days ,do the shift include days or nights,is there w/ end working amongst it etc ,etc .

(And no not p2f. I started 18 years ago before p2f existed. Spent 8 years blood and sweat working to get in. Captain on fixed wing contractor unit for HM Coastguard then regional, then 747 L/H)

That ought to send this thread mighty quietā¦
People could just mind their own business, it would appear that curtain twitching is rife in the transport industry.
I get paid a daily rate for every day Iām on the boat, now a month and month about. Devide my daily rate by 24 and the hourly rate is abysmal. If ny wages had gone up in proportion to inflation blah blah blah since the seventies I would now be on a fortune, but I aint!! In 1971 my average wage was Ā£43.10 shilling per week which was nigh on twice the national average if memory serves.

I wish all drivers would do it though, saying you take home Ā£550 means bugger all in itself, if youāre doing 40 non premium hours and sleeping in your own bed at night its pretty good, if youāre doing 70 hours actual work incl Sat/Sun run in/out and sleeping in (guarding for nothing) the tin can for 4 days/nights then itās scandalously bad.
Sitting on oneās arse for hours on end at some Godforsaken supermarket RDC is still work (i cannot and will not do it), gold medals should be awarded to the regulars for not going berserk and topping half the inmates at the dumps.
Thatās fine, it doesnāt bother me. Just an idea for others to share if they found it useful. If its collectively not thought a good idea, then fair enough as they say!
Like I said, worked on a different forum. Yes, a very few did decide to come over all 1960s Britain of a sudden and get offended at the notion (despite generic pay rates being discussed regularly). No one is being asked personally. Donāt answer if you donāt want to. But then youāll probably not want to read what people put of course.
But most found it just an extra piece of useful reading on top of the info you get from a firm to gauge the state of pay at companies and different regions. When I applied for a firm I had all the topline, duty pay rates, subsistance, night rig hours but only found out what I could expect in hand by asking. And it was exactly right what was told to me.
As for regional variations, if someone is looking to move to Cornwall theyād appreciate pay may be less than London. Never mind regional variations, why limit to that problem, what about the fact some are on skips, some are on containers? Apples and Oranges in comparison. Itās not meant to be a comparison just maybe useful if youāre thinking of moving on.
Im salaried, works out to roughly Ā£11ph (before tax) for 50 hours night trunking. Although tend to be sat around for about 3/4 hrs a night.
I donāt care, if itās enough to pay the bills, Iāll just keep on!
To be honest there is NO ONE on the earth that is doing my exact job. We are a small firm of 3x 8 leggers and 1 artic. 2 rigids and the artic, out of the other depot, and my rigid out of a different depot. This means that no one else is doing the same hours, or the same conditions, as me. By conditions I mean, runs, customers, different depot staff, different traffic.
As such, if one of the other guys at the firm is on more than me, fine. He will have done something different to me, to have earned that.
As for what you boys/girls are on? Iām not fussed about that either. You will either be working harder, or longer, or on a job that is more skilled than mine, or you have found a better job than me. In which case, well done! Itās probably not that hard, but as I said Iām happy with my lot.
Did I forget to mention Iām happy
I earn top dollar p/m,Iām worth more because Iāve got all the skills but for now Iāll take top dollar until someone can afford to pay full whack for my skillz.
I wonāt say how much I earn but letās just say thisā¦if chickens could run in the wild, elephants would rather seek gratification in East africaā¦wink, wink.
Wtf! Iāll not even bother to try to sort the meanin of that ā¦
My hourly rate is Ā£7.083 per hour! Anyone wanna job?
