Think it’s good to know your fuel gauge readings compare with the actual fuel amount in the tank if that’s your regular motor.
I made a notes how much driving time I can do say half a tank to quater, quater to red. Was lucky to pull in to services as a red indicator came up and for now I know when red comes on I have 80-90 liters of diesel that’s at least 100 miles to do.
Good to know as we don’t have that much Hgv/Lgv services in our area especially if you have to use different fuel cards week to week.

I know it’s been said for years that crap gets dragged through (in many vehicles), however how does this crap get in here in the first place? Presumably the fuel is carefully filtered in he refinery?Rust.
In my car, the tank is plastic. Should I be worried about that running low in terms of clogging the filter?
Don’t think it matters a fig - the fuel pick-up is at the bottom of the tank anyway, so if there is any clag in the tank, it will get drawn in regardless of the level.
20 mile difference is too close for comfort. The trip computer “best guesses” based on what it thinks is in the tank and your average MPG over the last 30-40 miles. If between where you are and where you’re going you’ve got some climbs to go up or something like Windy Hill where you’ll be down to 2-3MPG for 5 or 6 miles you can expect to see that 120 miles to drop to “crap I’m not going to make it” very quickly.

Common misconception, a lot of debris that builds up in the tank floats, this is what clogs filters when you run it right to the bottom!

Is there any point in dieseling up on the way back to the yard when we have bunkerage of our own though? I don’t know the exact numbers but the yard is cheaper than the card 95% of the time apparently.
That may be so for some , but for others, pump prices outweigh the costs of bunkering.
For the sake of topping up 20/30 ltrs with a card at an outsource pump to make it back to base bunkering safely,
is it worth the risk of running out of fuel and being invoiced for an approx £200.00 bill for a mechanic/fitter to attend with 2 jerry cans and 2hrs downtime
That makes a very expensive 30/40 ltrs compared to a fuel card , irrespective of whether the Co. has its own workshops.
.
To run out of fuel deliberately on a wing and a prayer is not only unsafe but downright stupidity. At the end of the day the Driver is responsible.

Yes this! I’ve ran out of diesel as I use different wagons all the time and this particular piece of… Junk said I had over quarter a tank left and I was 15 miles from base!! Very angry that Friday night I can tell Ya!
Used to do 3x trips a week to Belge, in a lorry that had 1200ltr fuel capacity .
Could never get my head around why, when i left Gb,there was just enough derv in the tanks to make Jabbeke where i would fill to the brim.
One night on the way out,the roundhill tunnels were closed,so had to divert over the top to Dover.
The low fuel warning light came on climbing the hill and the engine started spluterring(it was an Iveco)
To make a short story long . . made it to Jabbeke.

Most Tesco stations take Keyfuels as well if needed…
They don’t seem to any more. It seems Tesco started taking Keyfuels in 2011, but stopped a year or two later.
The Keyfuels website certainly doesn’t list any Tesco sites now.

Depends what you’re driving, I’ve used all the Morrisons filling stations locally in a rigid and it’s common to see tippers and coaches in them too.
The tightest place to get into I’ve used is the Co-op in Nairn, which I’ll use because it is the only place I’ve found that gives any loyalty points when using Keyfuels.
Annoyingly the Co-op in Broadford doesn’t take Keyfuels, and it actually has HGV pumps!

I filled up with Keyfuels at Tesco today, as I always do…
Hiya i think it was days when you carried half a dozen 5gallon cans is where the sh… in the tank come from
you’d fill any old can up, it didn,t matter if it had oil or what in as long as it was full of diesel thats what mattered.
usually at 9 oclock at night as well.
later in life when i got a good job i was on my weight. the boss wouldn’t let you weigh off then fill up so off i
went with half a tank full. when i got near the customers at 2045 i pulled into a filling station and put half a
tankfull in. i payed (on the card) got in the truck. wur wur wur she’d run out of fuel…under the wing and half
a dozen pumps and she fired up. thats what i call running close to the bone…and i had a mile to go before the
london night time ban… just made it with 5 mins to spare. 2 close ones in a day

Is that a normal Tesco filling station at a supermarket, or a branded fuel forecourt with a Tesco shop?
The Keyfuels website doesn’t list any Tesco petrol stations and I haven’t seen any Keyfuels logos on the lists of cards at Tesco pumps.

Maybe they’re not very good a updating the stickers in some places…
Strange that they aren’t listed on the Keyfuels site.
Do they give Clubcard points on Keyfuels?

Yes, 1 point per £2 spent on fuel.
It’s worth pointing out that there are a few different types of Keyfuels card as well and they only take 1 of them. I have the purple one.
I would run with it, I did a night out from a keyfuels petrol station and had 50k/30m range left, the yard was 28 miles away, needless to say I got back on.
423ltrs it took to fill the merc back up and my mates said it’s a 400ltr tank

Which loyalty card you using? The membership?
Yes, membership card. But it only gives a tenth of the points when paying by Keyfuels.
Eg. Get 100l at £130 and you only get 13 points, whereas paying by other means would give 130 points.
It not much, but it better than others which give no points on Keyfuels, like Morrisons, Esso, BP.

Thank you
Now I just have to hope that the Co-op actually make a profit this year, otherwise all those points will be worthless.
I had a BP card years ago in my last job which I would regularly use at the Co-op in Broadford and got something like £80 back at the end of the year, although that got the full amount of points on the pump price - and Nectar points too!
100lt tanks on our LFs. One lad showed me a receipt for 112 lts. Bit too close to the wire for my liking (and his car was petrol, and he had no cans)
