AUTOMATION AND MASS UNEMPLOYMENT.

I listened to an interview in the early hours on Up All Night on BBC Radio 5 Live, between Rhod Sharp and an American so-called ‘Professor’ of

whatever at some American university. This egotistical professor said that in the near future eighty per cent of private motorcars in America - or he

could have meant the world - would go out of circulation, because people would use automated taxis for their personal transport needs, and only a

small number of people - the so-called elite? - would own their own motorcars.

Obviously automated,computer-controlled,driverless taxis, cars, lorries, trucks, buses, motorcoaches and other motor vehicles are possible - and at

least some of these are now real.

Now I really like Rhod Sharpe,he’s a nice guy,an interesting and good broadcaster, but at no time was he tough a interviewer in regard to this

so-called professor guy! :exclamation: :unamused: Because he most certainly should have been with what this professor was saying, who was far more entranced

with automation,BUT not at all with the absolutely catastrophic economic consequences of automation! :exclamation: :unamused: :smiling_imp: - at no time was

the economic implications ever even mentioned during this interview! :exclamation: :unamused: Just what the hell was Rhod Sharp playing at  :exclamation: :unamused: -

Stephen Nolan would not have messed around! :exclamation: and would have forthrightly questioned this so-called professor guy, who is obviously living in

Cloud Cuckoo Land! :exclamation: :unamused:

He doesn’t seem to realise that if his automation predictions came true, many car manufacturers, and their dealers, garages, service stations, etc

would go of business, millions of people in the automotive-motor sector would become unemployed and so on.

Mass automation as a whole:automated factories, automated lorries, cars, taxis, offices, etc, would be self-defeating because there would be mass

unemployment on unprecedented scales - far,far worse than there were in the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s - and that the vast majority

of people would not be able to afford to buy the products that the automated factories were producing, except the owners of the factories

themselves! :exclamation: :unamused:

So in order to avoid this economic nightmare of the future, automation must be limited in order to protect jobs! :exclamation:

I’m all in favour of driverless cars because they’ll cut down on the number of accidents on the road and injuries and deaths.

Driverless lorries, buses, motorcoaches, taxis? This is a tougher one to answer, because having these would certainly cut down on road traffic accidents,

but there would be mass unemployment in the taxi, bus, motorcoach, road haulage, etc industries :imp: :unamused:

Computer controlled automation is a wonderful technology in it’s own right, but mass automation in the present situation and economic model

would cause and an economic nightmare with most of the world’s population unemployed, with all of the associated miseries and problems that

unemployement causes.

Finally,I have heard to that to counter mass unemployment Governments would pay the unemployed ‘wages’ - not unemployment benefit -

but just where governments would get the money to pay these wages from remains to be seen…

VALKYRIE

Mass unemployment within 10yr? It’ll make the industrial revolution look like a walk in the park. If government doesn’t attend to it soon they’ll be big trouble at mill
