Home brew sleeper cabs

Thank you all, gentlemen…very interesting (and amusing) thread this has turned out to be. Any more pics out there?

Further to Robert’s dartboard reference- I usually miss the board altogether (or end up in Double one!) and start rambling on about something only slightly related to the original post!

It’s probably to do with my age. :unamused:

Or the number of times you’ve been to the bar…

That’s interesting Les, it’s Strayan obviously. I never even knew Straya got wagons like that, where did that come from?

Richard J:
Yep…that’s along the right lines. Thank you sir…any more?

This is a classic example of what I meant…

Another interesting (if blurry) pic of a KM in either Straya or UnZud. Any further info on it Richard?

I can,t think of any diy cabs that looked 1/2 right, like I,ve said before like bolting an orange box on boot of E type. But T Ks lent themselves to diy job better than most, that last one would only need a tweak to be right in my eye. Having said that I always thought that about my face most folks say major surgery, eye of beholder n all that

I don’t go to the bar- I send others.
And it’s definitely your round.
Again.

I took this photo of a photo of the Bedford KM 6x4 at the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs in Australia. Nobody really knew anything about it, only that it had a Detroit Diesel in it. I think the extra length and width of the cab suits this KM, I wonder if it was a one off?

It’s not wider- I think that may be something to do with the photography- look at the gate post to the right and the telegraph pole to the left- they should be parallel. It’s definitely longer though. There are three hinges on the engine cover, instead of two.

Some intresting examples about !

They ran well into the `90s nationwide , I saw them regularly in Keighley West Yorks, ironically they sold out not long after moving to ERFs and SAs

The AEC wrecker truck more than likely came from an ex fire brigade turntable ladder similar to this one.

Sorry, I didn’t mean the cab itself was wider, just the extension ‘pods’ in place of the windows, behind the doors make it look wider.

Yes. There were some UK TKs with those on, posted somewhere else on the Forum. God knows where.
