Proper truck drivers talk and mr M6 nowhere to be found.
Me and 3 other drivers have to just been told we have to change our Hi-Vis from Yellow to Orange at the request of a customer.
So thats 1 new vest, 1 long sleeve and 1 winter coat each.
One driver pointed out to our TM…its not the colour of the vest thats hi-vis , its the reflective strips on said items.
Her response “…its what they want”
But theres been absolutely no other reason given.
Oh well…i was going to ask for some new hi-viz after the winter but i’ll just get some early
Construction sites and quarry’s seem to be strict on the orange hi-vis being worn to the point of refusal I have noticed. I was also about to get turned away for not having the trousers also but had no chance of getting a pair. I think that load must have been pretty important as he eventually let me go ahead without them after some chin scratching.
You would have more luck going onto a site bollock naked covered in your own sh*t than show up in a black hi-vis. Witnessed a few arguments regarding these.

Regatta over at Ellesmere Port will not let you on site without an orange hi-viz. My yellow one wasn’t good enough for me apparently.
Traditionally orange is for rail workers (yellow banned if anywhere trackside). Yellow for everyone else.
I wear red or blue overalls with some reflective tape
I work mainly on construction sites but also visit other industrial sites, ports etc. With the exception of rail jobs where I have an orange pair these are accepted at 99.9% of the places I go.
When I get asked to wear a High Vis vest I actually have to hunt around for it! Ironically they do not meet the correct specification for Hi Vis as they only have single bands and do not have any the inverted T of reflective tape that is normally found on a vest. (Or so someone told me on his site but wasn’t upset enough to make a fuss!)
I worked airside at Manchester airport for years with just standard yellow how viz. And never got run over by a plane .
Although supervisors wore yellow tops but hi viz part was red kind of like the stuff you see around back doors of some trailers.
Way I see it hi viz is only good when it’s dark in daylight can’t see the point really

It’s both…yellow/ orange for daytime, silver stripes for night.
yellow tends to really attract those nasty little black flies in summer whilst the orange doesn’t. That as good a reasons any for me.
I can’t wait to retire.
Me too, not long to go now.
I had to carry two complete sets in the car when I was self employed as every site is different and it’s getting stupid. Some like all orange or all yellow and some like a bit of both.
Hi-Viz is what it says, a higher visibility from and above normal clothing…why drivers put up with this nonsense i do not know…this one here wouldnt, and nothing would change unless you fight back…tell them you have a high viz, and if they wont tip you, or let you in the gate…just refuse their requests…if you decide to agree with them…demand a brand new one. I had an instance once over a helmet, when i was on tankers…apparently a red one was for the fire service, and offered me a white one ( minus the inside straps ) and i politely told em to do one and i wouldd take the load back…they soon changed their minds, but gave me a warning that i wouldnt be allowed in without a white helmet, to which i replied, dont worry your on my list of banned companies, and so will my boss know too.
Harry Monk:
You have to wear an orange one on the railways because if you wear a yellow one then Mr Magoo driving the train might mistake you for a signal.
100% Correct Harry.
At 125mph you really don`t want Mr Magoo mistaking you for a signal. LOL
Ironically I can’t wear red overalls on the rail job in case I get mistaken for a signal, I replied that I should be nice and safe unless they were going to SPAD me
With last firm it was:
Standard Yellow: Drivers & Storekeepers
Orange: Railway & Contractors
Yellow with Blue Bottom: Admin & Managers
Pink: Lady’s, LGBT & The FLT Drivers to take the pee!
Green: 1st Aid Trained
At least with ARCO there should be no shortage of nice colours to choose from and Mr Martin needs to pay for his new office block somehow.
When I was on tankers, it was common for them to tell me my hat was the wrong colour, Blue meant Engineering. Yellow meant Fire Warden. Red meant First Aider. White with Chin Cup meant Management and so on.
I felt like a Speedway rider swapping helmet colours at different factories to suit them.
Camouflage safety helmet lol, used to have a red black and white one with Canadian flag on it
