I think that FA Dayson also ran a company called Brit Turk International Ltd. They also carried a lot of timber in the UK.
I noticed the Turners of Soham on your site, do you now drive for them?
Also noticed a Norscot International Scania, where are they based in Northern Scotland?

Thats true George, Sulimans(young turks) brother was in the office in Carlisle where he ran the uk side of young turk trucking in the uk ,the wood haulage was Alan Daysons and his son Joe is still carrying wood today.

No George i finished with Turner BV in 1999 when the manager (Joe Genario) in soham got sacked and all the british based drivers got offered jobs with turner uk but thats not for me as international is all i know, the Hasewoude (Amsterdam) based drivers kept there jobs and are still running today.

Norscot international is owned by Donald Morrison and his brother, they are fish merchants based in Kinlockbervie, they have three or four trucks two scannys and a daf and run fish out of mainly Ullapool/Lockinver/Kinlockbervie and Scrabster mostly to France
This is what i drive today George
On the same traffic as the norscot lads

Hello Klunk. Ref: Drivers. Yes, thats Gerry Lyons. Did a few trips with him on DJ International. Been trying to track him down- he was living at his sisters about 3miles away from me, but cant remember her surname. Saw Gerry driving an ASDA truck a few weeks back, so left messages with them. Be good to see him again if anybody else has contact with him.

Hello, the above is from a few years ago on the forum, it’s about ‘F.A.Dayson’ from Carlisle. I wonder if the original poster is still on the forum, I used to drive for ‘F.A.Dayson’ and drove SAO 314X the 112 Scania shown in the photos. I have lost contact with everyone I knew, Chris Stevenson and I used to run together quite a lot. Could go on for hours, they were great days. Does anyone have more photos or know where some of the folks are now? There was a guy, Andrew, an owner operator who subbed for ‘Whittle Int.’ he was really well spoken, completely mad, drove a 1626 Merc. On and on I could go, I was know as ‘Flowerpower’ … ring any bells? I was a bit of a hippy type, now just a burnt out hippy. I’ve been an owner operator a long time now and how i wish I could run out there again… dreams of course. Don’t know about anyone else out there that knows what I am talking about (anyone there?), I was telling my wife that I would rather run with 112 Scania or F10/12 out there than a modern truck, they were dependable and uncomplicated.
Sorry for first post being ‘memory lane’.
There was another truckstop further down the hill on the right with a bigger carpark but it was a hangout for all the clever fella,s with no money, no diesel ,no permits etc.
Hullo Harry,
I’ve just found this thread, some good bits on here. That Cafe as you said was indeed the last one in France ( The Frenchmans) although there were another couple further along the road towards Italy, beside the lake and the museum, but they were mostly tourist spots and only open during the day. After that you dropped down to the French Customs, then down the steps and into Italia. I can’t seem to place the Restaruant with the bigger car park where all the clever dicks hung out though. Going back down the French you wove down under the cable car till you got to Lanselbourg, down the road to Termignon, after that there were a few places to stop, but none of them were English haunts. On the Italian side, there was a very small Cafe opposite the Customs, then it was a long slow drive down to Susa. Further along the road to Torino at Busseleno there were a couple of Albergo’s with large parking areas. Mind you in those days '75,'76,'77, there were very few permits around anyway, we all had to duck and dive, I was lucky, I had 7 French and 5 Italian to last me a year, so naturally I had a small stapler and about twenty printed off backing sheets, the green permit having many holes in the top LH corner where I had had to re-Staple the new backing sheet on.
Cheers, Archie.
Hi boathead
Klunk is still a member of this forum but is away allot, I have seen his truck around the Lorient and Vannes area several times,I am sure he will respond to you in a few months !!. With regard to the driver Andrew you refer to ,it was most probably Andrew Wilson -Young ( this only from reading the Astran /Middle East drivers thread ) I never did Middle East ,the furthest I went in that sort of direction was Moscow.
Hi boathead and welcome to the forum, nice to find another Dayson pilot i,ll write more later, as i,m busy at the mom delivering food groupage from Brittany starting at Newbury and ending up in Fife
As kerbut says i,m still about

Hi there ‘Klunk’, no problems, I’m busy too so visits to the forum will be sporadic, I just run in the U.K. now from the far North of Scotland (Caithness) to S.W. & S.E. England. I can make money staying here, I think I’ve been out of Continental so long that if I went back now I would probably lose money, I don’t have the contacts. If I’m honest about it what I do now is pretty easy too, it doesn’t stress me or the truck which is good for my pocket, it’s a nice drive too until you get South of Perth, but I did notice that there are Greek round trips on offer and thought maybe to do one just for the fun…probably not one of my more sensible ideas!
You know, one of my most lasting memories from my time with Alan Dayson was the way that Eroll was treated like a Head of State at the Londra Camp, even more so when he was there with his wife, what a comical but lovely couple they were.
Cheers.
