henley transport co ltd, their head office was paddock wood in kent,a depot in goudhurst kent where the workshops were ,another depot at herden near canterbury in kent and finally a northern depot in rochdale lancashire.
sold out in 1994 to wrm (worse luck)anyone got any photos?
I remember this motor coming up to the Trans Pennine Run, and I took this pic on The Stray at Harrogate. I can’t just remember the year - late 80s, I would guess. From what I recall, it still belonged to Henley’s at the time, though I dimly recall it being advertised for sale some time after this.
kkj 290e it was brand new to the company and after service was parked up in the old lorry shed at goudhurst on the henley farm (spelmonden estate) for many years.
it obviously had the odd outing such as this one,but wheres it gone now?

Recently advertised for sale by Lock’s I think? Found this pic on the net, but no idea where from - apologies to the photographer!
allan lock of headcorn purchased the lorry from jack henley ran it for several years then laid it to rest for quite a while in his yard,i believe he then part exchanged the old girl for a ride on mower from a firm in the smarden area who has recently since advertised it in cvc.
alas after several years of hunting i cannot find a picture of when it was in service with jack henley, nor can i find one of when it was on show at the 1966 earls court show!
As a rochdale lad i remember Henleys well - always looked smart to me as a kid - could always compare them to the british vita lorries as their factory was at the end of our lane. Others i remember were wilkinsons as neighbour drove for them and would often take self and his son out for the day with him - he even let me have a go steering his D-series down a lane whilst sat on his knee.
Is this the same Henleys that used to move Peelings / Tree Bark for a company called Melcourt Industries?
They used to have ‘walking floor’ trailers for this work - the first ones I had seen. The material would get stuck in a normal tipping body which was very dodgy if you were tipping on a poor site.

Everyone was too gobsmacked by the new Viewline on the stand that year, to notice a standard motor!
Just found this site. So not sure people will see this. I used to take over the Road train from Ron Green to do the night trunk. After all the Gardner engines it was nice to drive.
Hi Deryck,

If you have any Henley photos please feel free to share to the group along with any memories and stories.
My father was aldo a driver on there mid 60s and mid 70s as well.
Hope you enjoy the group.

Chris
Lovely old atmospheric picture.
Henley JKL 219L Aec Mercury was the last Aec 4 wheeler to come home and when it did it was the first rigid in the fleet to be fitted with a boalloy Tauliner body.
I only drove it once but having the load partially supported from the roof made it sway a lot which I definitely did not like at all. No anti roll bars in those days.
