Henley transport co ltd remember them?

Henley cab colour was called Sun Tan. I don’t know the paint manufacturer though.

The chassis was Silver and Imperial Crimson.

Heres one from Jack Henleys collection an AEC Mercury loaded with hops on the farm at Spelmonden nr Goudhurst in Kent.
The company initially ran under Spelmonden Estate Company Ltd,Jacks fathers name Percy Henley was signwritten on the vehicles then the company name changed to Henley Transport Co Ltd.

The front cover of a Boalloy supplement that I am almost certain came with an issue of Commercial Motor.

Today I have received sad news that Jack Henleys wife Rosemary has passed away.
Rosemary had suffered with ms for many years.
Even though Rosemary had no involvement with the company she was always there with Jack on the functions and also with him on foreign Road Haulage Association seminars.
Thoughts are with both sides of the family, and especially to Jack.

OKK 160F an AEC Mandator V8 seen here coupled to the low loader which would have been engaged on work for the likes of Tylers of Tonbridge in Kent.
I am almost certain this unit was to Jimmy Hopkins who later left the company and go it alone under the banner of J & E Transport of Brenchley running just over half a dozen Mercs or so on fruit work.

Hello Lawrence, I am sorry to read your announcement about Mrs Henley’s death although I knew neither Jack or her I feel that by buying ERF RKJ 160M from Brian in 2005 I have taken a great interest in the company and many of the comments and photos here on your thread. Please pass my condolences on to Jack when you see him.
Attached is photograph taken by a friend of my wife who has retired to Ballater when she saw a line up of old lorries there two weeks ago today, she texted asking if my old ERF would be there asking for the registration number etc, I knew it would be as Mike Bonner the current owner living locally in Torphins and I had had a telephone conversation earlier that week.

Very sad news indeed. What a terrible loss for Jack, I am so sorry. Rosemary just simply made Jack almost a different person, suddenly he was happy.

Sad news indeed…also, I didn’t know that Jim Hopkins of J & E was an ex Henley driver. You learn something every day!.

When jimmy went back to only 1 lorry which was a seddon Atkinson he was also a subbie of mine along with his son alan who I also subbed work to.

cav 551 can you put a name to the driver or passenger of this one?
mlw.jpg

I think MLW was Richard Harrison’s unit before SYF came home.
However it doesn’t look like Richard driving.
The picture is a bit small, but the two seem to be
wearing caps and possibly ties so I will go with Lofty and Sooty
ie Brian Gibson driving and Gordon Taylor passenger.

Forum seems ■■■-barred again - too wide.
Is the T in the left hand corner a clue to what is wrong?

I got this idea from the bewick thread a while ago,of a picture book on Henley Transport Co Ltd.
I have a very large collection of photographs on the company,so I decided to go down the road of from the start of the business through to the end.
With the help of my step daughter we done it through vista print,i am happy with the result so if any of you have a large photo collection its well worth doing.
So heres the cover.

Its something I’ve been thinking about for a long time…would be nice to see the Henley book sometime. Have you put captions with the photos?

Nice line up of MANs…

Hello Mark yes I did put captions in,i am pleased with how it came out but it was very much a very big learning curve for me.
My thanks go to my step daughter who was very patient with me even when we lost it all and had to start again,if t wasn’t for Amy theres no way I could have done it myself as I don’t have computer skills at all!
One tip I would give is to have all your photos ready scanned and periodically look at vista prints website and do it when they have one of their sales on , just to save a bit of money.
Its worth doing and you will be pleased as its nice to see the photos in a book for a change as opposed to a photo album and you can choose what pictures you want.

I drove past a yard in West Thurrock today and B380UKN ERF day cab was in there. Couldn’t believe my eyes! Can’t be many Henley vehicles still around of this era? According to DVLA this is taxed to 1/3/15

Pictures next time please,Tyreman

I did see on flickr there was a photo of B380 UKN whilst at the dorset steam fair,i think it was a grey in colour and coupled up to a box trailer.
On the subject of ex Henley Transport vehicles in existence I am almost certain that VKO 520J which was an ERF LV tractor unit is still on the rally scene owned by someone in East Sussex.

Sorry I had my camera but didn’t want to look dodgy taking photos of someones yard!!
Yes if you search B380UKN on Flickr the second picture has comments and ownership details.
