Help with fuse

its only happend once to me, i was 150 miles away, near leicester, and my tomtom died on me, plus my phone was dead too, i didnt know if my charger had gone, or the fuse blown, till this day i carry 3 chargers for my phone, its a samsung s3, so i can use the charger for my bluetooth headset, and i can take out the mini usb and put the tomtom in.
i use my samsung s3 phone for the last few turns, put google earth on, and see where i need to go, usually to a massive distributtion centre. the tesco distribution centre off the A5 in hinckley[ a47] caught me really off gurad a few weeks back, i was carefulling looking both sides, then i saw it, but i couldnt go into the gate, as i had then passed it. went to the end of the road, turn back on the mini roundabout.

The OP may be wise to consider getting an assortment (1 or 2) splitter sockets (2/3 way) and a hella male plug, to female ■■■ socket to he can adapt his TT to the various accessory sockets available on various trucks, a splitter will allow him to charge his mobile at the same time. A lot of this stuff can be found at truck trash accessory shops at MSA`s

do you mean , one socket, but with 2 outlets, is so, yes i have that, thats was makes me think i 'll blow a fuse. bought it from Halfords

@ Peirre
totally agree with your Happiness is Here link BTW! LOL

What does that have to do with it?

I can’t find a Halfords 24v one online, but the 12v version has a fuse as a pin of the socket you plug in.
If it is the same, the most likely fuse you will blow is the one in the plug, not the one in the fuse box. Can you find a link to the one you have?

i once went for a shift at viamaster in leeds when on agency,it was class 2 and had around 17 drops all over the place which included peoples houses :open_mouth:

went to the office and came away with a bible of paperwork and was told "you’ll be ok,sat nav’s built in "

all’s good in the world i thought so i gets in the cab looking at this black and white sat nav thing which takes cd’s and wont turn on :unamused:

now i’m thinking to myself “not to worry, got the tomtom in the bag,get her plugged in”

plugs it in,nothing :unamused:

heads back to office “this built in sat navs ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ work”,cant get the tomtom working,so i got the maintenence out, buggered without it,to add insult to injury it was the worse agency i worked for and when i got paid realised i’d got shafted, never worked for them again.

it was my way of saying, " no fixed job, no fixed vehicle, no fixed day of work, no fixed route" although that has only recantly changed. iI’ve been put on a temporary to Permanent program with a company in Blackburn

@ th2013,
i bought it instore, never checked online, about 18 months ago. and 12 v. it takes a proper fuse, the ones you have at gome, or in the home plugs. not these thin car ones. i’ll post a pic of it soon

here it is [ also the 2 blue clips are from when i’m given a vehicle that has the 5th wheel clip missing, just so mr Vosa doesnt get upset, never been pulled yet.]

Right, the bit you plug in has a collar you unscrew and that will be an 8A fuse in the top. The lowest I have ever seen the socket fused is 10A, and you sometimes find 15 or 20. Therefore even if you pour a kettle of water over the splitter it should be the 8A fuse that goes not the upstream one in the fuse box. So you actually need some spares for that one!

The two most probable scenarios are
1 - the fuse in that plug goes due to overloading it or a fault, or an accident.
2 - you get in a vehicle and the ■■■ lighter is not working due to something the last bloke did.

I would not worry too much about it failing en-route somewhere, honestly!

i always check it at the begining of the shift, if it doesnt work, i then try the one on the passenger side, never had to ask for another vehicle for this issue. thanks you mate. i’ll go and get one for this too. [ a fuse]

Very rare a ■■■ lighter fuse blows unless you plug something stupid into it eg a food bloody blender.

Usual problem is that over time the prongs at the bottom of the socket where the side of the ■■■ lighter element touches to make a circuit bend and dont touch the live side of the plug ,lighter etc. This is partly due to the current flow heating up the prongs.
And as they start to bend the resistance in the circuit rises causing even more heat to be produced till they burn and no current can flow.

If you draw a constant 10 amps from a 10 amp socket they dont last long. They are designed to light ■■■■ not power fridges or TVs for long periods.

HeavyOwl:
what amp would i need, for 12 volt lighter, 12 amp? is amp and voltage the same?

Just ordered these amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 … UTF8&psc=1

Volts X Amps = watts so 12 volt X 12 amp gives you 144 watts

Most 12 volt ■■■ lighters have a 30 amp fuse to give you 360 watts
But as 24 volt systems have twice the voltage they have half the current rating,15 amp to give you the same 360 watt.Thats why trucks have very thin wiring they only have to carry half the current of a twelve volt system.

If you really want to save yourself aggravation by some thermal trips.

They fit in the fuse board like an ordinary fuse but they are a little black box, when the circuit overloads they click out and a small button on top pops out.all you do is push the button back in and it resets the circuit.
And as a plus, when its dark you just run your finger over the top of the trips and you can feel which one has tripped
They come in 8,10 and 15 amp sizes and are about a quid each.Handy as you dont have to faff about renewing fuses for lighting circuits if you pull the susie while your lights are still on.
