Don’t lose heart mate. I know two lads who passed their class 2. One got a job at a builders merchants, they trained him on the hiabs, the other has a dd10 on his licence. He got so many knock backs but eventually a concrete firm gave him a chance. So, just keep plugging away.
You’ve got a few quarries around your area, Bayston Hill, Leaton, Clee hill. Have you thought about putting a sign up with your details in the weigh bridges?

Where was the question?
damien88:
i passed my hgv class 2 in may last year and am struggling finding a job. please help i live in craven arms shropshire.
That looks to me like a request for help aimed at people in an industry that the OP wants to enter. Now I got my current job after a chance encounter with a former colleague. I don’t live in the area the OP lives so cannot offer any advice specific to firms and others make useful suggestions.

You’ve probably already done this…but if not ?
Thank…i appreciate all your help…should I ring the quarries? Don’t I need to find the company’s going to the quarries?
No offence intended mate, but a year after starting your search the time for calling companies has long passed. You need to turn up at places refularly with your licence, boots, hi vis etc with you, make them aware of you, become the first person they think of when they’re short of a driver. Monday mornings is a good time to do this when regular drivers haven’t turned up and there’s a load that simply MUST go.
Good luck anyway.

If you can afford it personally i’d suggest getting your class 1 instead as if that is your ultimate goal then time spent on class 2 as and when you get a job can sometimes mean you have just the same struggle trying to climb up to class 1 so you may as well start with that, there’s also the fact that class 1 work is generally easier than class 2 which is more usually multi-drop (don’t be fooled, there’s plenty of class 1 multi-drop too).
When they ask you about your experience inclduing van and 7.5ton driving, embelish it, it’s relevant experience, some class 2 trucks are not a lot bigger than a large 7.5ton anyway. If you don’t have any experience of those two then go and get some, anyone can get van work with zero experience, easier to get 7.5t work from that and then class 2 from 7.5ton etc… How far are you looking? You need to include Worcester and Droitwich, Robert Wiseman might take you on class 2 via agency, Tooles too.
Hi Damien, you will probably struggle to get driving jobs in South Shropshire. I live not far from Craven Arms, it has been fairly tough for me as well. I’m having to work mostly for haulage companies in the North Shropshire and Telford area. Could try Temps On Call Agency (Market Drayton), they’re currently looking for somebody to do Class 2 Multi-drop in Telford area. W J Cappers(Wellington) are looking for somebody to do Class 2 work. I left a company in Craven Arms (Border Holdings Ltd) to get better Driving opportunities two years ago (Got Class 1 C + E).
During that time there wasn’t much about, but now I feel things seems to be getting better in the job market as there does seem more companies advertising for drivers. My advice is to keep knocking on companies door, phoning up, or get on Agency work. Shrewsbury area seems to a tough area for Driving jobs, as my experience of them seems to be they don’t want to know about giving people a job for some reason - maybe we are in South Shropshire back of beyond.
North Shropshire and Telford Haulage companies will give you a better chance of having a job. Anything below Cravens Arms, you will probably need to travel to Leominster or Hereford area to get jobs. I know there are some companies in the Hereford area looking for Class 2 drivers even give Newbies a start. Good luck, hopefully you will be in your dream job soon! Andrew.
