Found it! This is the other one I was on about.
Van 't Hek used to buy “very well” used second hand units, this modified DAF was new in the v.d. Vlist and when it was worn out it was sold to Van 't Hek who had it for several years, giving sterling service…

Nice one whips…I can’t imagine the cost today of one of these heavies, if a normal tractor is around 100K euro…what cost a 4 or 5 axle for the really big stuff… any idea ?..no wonder smaller companies buy second hand…
Fergie47, I bought two 250t 8 wheel heavy tractor units in the last 3 months, one brand new at just over 400k Euros, a 12 month old slightly used one at 130k Euros!
I’m glad I don’t do that too often!,
Ed
Patrick, what make is the truck pulling the statue of a horse. Possibly a early Scammell ■■?
Looks like along wheel base on the Renault unit.

Thank you Ed…So Wow then,… plus those multi wheeled trailers, maybe 28 axles, plus beams, all those tyres, and fuel, and well paid drivers (hopefully) and you could be looking at a half a million pounds worth of gear before the load goes on…far cry from my F89 and a tri-axle semi low , about 10k tops…
I’ve a photo somewhere of SCALE’s outfit, 26 or 28 axles, double beams, with one pulling and two pushing…a lot of money ■■■■■■■ in that outfit, I’ll see if I can find it…
…
Can’t find the photo I was thinking about, but these are near enough to give an idea…cost that lot up eh …

Fergie’s idea of getting the job done rapidly…
That’s not getting it done rapidly, rapid is when you flick it off on the move and keep going, this blokes stopped to tip it, … to

Here’s how it use to be done…
Second picture is a De Dion meter gauge railcar being delivered to the station where it’ll start working. I must have more information somewhere, but need to find it… The truck could be a Latil TAR.

And that’s your question answered Senior And indeed, that’s only the tractor units… so with a modular trailer or even with a “standard” step frame trailer, the prices one has to pay are going up rapidly! I’m glad I’m not a o/d in this line of work…
May I ask what you’ve bought Ed, as they’re plated for 250t, I’m sort of assuming that it’s either a MAN or a Merc? Would you be able to post some pic’s of those units as well please, would be very much appreciated

If I’m not mistaken it’s a Latil tractor unit Dean, but maybe Paul/Froggy55 can verify that?Looks like along wheel base on the Renault unit.
It is, the French law uses bridge formulas, so to get a higher (legal) weight on the driving axles, most French operators used/use a long wheel based unit, 8 wheel tractor units are still not that common in France.

Some great looking kit, is Dyson still in business?
