Explore Transport, quite a new name in the industry, but with a lot of knowledge and experience, most of them have worked for Heanor’s…
Surely thats not the same explore transport (stobrat /Laing o’rourke) pay peanuts get monkeys that we see already, god help us all. Also makes a nice change to see Reid freight without seeing the driver chasing his truck down the road
I’ve got no idea to be honest, it’s only what I was told… But I reckon that is a entirely different Explore operation…
Seen here making a left turn off King Street on to Union Street Oldham.
The transformer would have been collected by Wynn’s from the near by Ferranti factory down the road at Hollinwood.
In those days long before the M62 was built many loads such as this came through Oldham town center.
They would then proceed up and down the steep hills across the Pennines towards Huddersfield on the old A62 which is why in this case three of Wynn’s Pacific heavy haulage tractors were assigned to the job.

FTF, not all that well known in the UK, but they were the Dutch equivalent to Scammell, many Dutch operators were keen users of FTF’s because of their strength and simplicity and some of them were used on operations all over the world…
