Right, 3rd of June I had a small heart attack, 22nd June I had a triple bypass, 3 days later I caught a chest infection and my left lung collapsed completely, and finally to top it all off they found a Pulmonary Embolism, cue a 6 week stay in hospital, at least half of which was in critical care. Anyway, all the literature I’ve had from the hospital says to ask Dr about driving roughly 6 - 8 weeks post op, but that professional drivers will have their licence suspended by DVLA. Now, does my car licence get suspended as well as my C1 and C provisional (applied for 2 days before heart attack)?
Suffolklad sorry to here all of this hope you are getting there but do as the Dr tell you there is also a good book " The heart attack recovery book " I understand it is good with a lot of info in it ( my dad had it after he had his & found it very useful )
Your car licence will be fine not sure about your Cat C due to it being provisional & 2 days before as DVLA could already know about your heart attack but dont give up hope
I had plenty of probs with the medical section of DVLA if you care to look it is documented in here although not a heart attack ( think you need a heart for 1 of them & Iam just a cruel heartless mother )
Speak with your Dr & consultants at the hospital then ask them to write you a letter to DVLA although you may have to wait a bit for this IIRC you can also do a course ( fitness thing ) cant remember what it called though last for approx 6 weeks see if they will send you on that
Like wheelnut says I realise this is an old thread but here goes.23rd dec 2009 I had heart attack at work went home and then to A&E for check up.12 hr later after numurous checks and test they confirmed that it was an heart attack, kept me in until new years eve and aloud me to go home.Went back a couple of times in the January and then went in in February for triple bypass op.sent my licence back to dvla who returned it minus LGV groups(they allowed me my car & 7.5 ton groups) did everything that I was told (exercise plus),
allowed to drive my car 6 weeks after op and then in October 2010 went for my treadmill test which was 3 different speeds for maximum 3 mins each = 9 mins altogether last 3mins was very fast pace, past with flying colours and returned to work late October and over the next few months felt better & better. All told I was off work from 23/12/09 to Oct 2010.I feel very lucky because some dont get the chance of an operation, like my owd fellow in 1975.
