Have you ever run out of fuel?

Ran out in a daf ssc, managed to coast up the slip road heading down the corridor 1st exit for veurne, then sat there for 11 hours waiting for the fitter to bring some fuel over and get it started again, gauge was on quarter of a tank, never made that mistake again

When working for the Belgians you had to get permission to fuel in the UK,was told to wait until after I had shipped out despite informing them I was on fumes :unamused: I got to Hull had to go up the ferry ramp and it cut out, I was about as popular as a ■■■■ in a lift while I held everything up putting 5gall of red in, which was stored for the kooi on the back :unamused:

I never ran out, but when I passed my test I done week for sheffield insulations out of Aberdeen. I had a trip to invergordon and the chap in office told me not to let the gauge go below half. Of course, me being a smart arse and noticing the gauge hardly moved for hours, I was confident I’d be okay. So the gauge gets to half, then I watched in disbelief as the bloody thing dropped by the minute. It was on zero when I found a place to fill up. lesson learned.

In my last job, i used to drive a 54 plate, 18 ton iveco box and we always used to fill up @ Raglan servies. The one day i headed down there from mitcheldean with only 1/4 of a tank left and when i got to raglan, i did the usual- pull up and turn engine off blah blah.

Paid for my fuel and got back in the cab, turned the ignition to find that the lorry wouldnt start!!! :open_mouth:

Turns out, if you let the tank go below quarter then, u have to bleed the engine! So i waited for 1hr 30mins for a mechanic to come with some special air filter spray that fired her bak up.

Never been so ashamed!!! :unamused:

Did you tell your boss about this “special airfilter spray?”

If so I hope he kicked your arse around the yard for half a day :stuck_out_tongue:

Once in our old twin tank unit on the M25 a few years back, it was sucking it out quicker than it could balance the tanks off.

I actually ran dry with about 150 litres of fuel still in the tank about 10 miles from the garage at J21.
