Hanging meat!

YES! That’s the stuff.

Even with 1300 lamb carcasses on a trailer rammed in with no room to move the weight isn’t even 21T.

Normally load 900 ish at about 16T

Have you ever loaded Craven Arms? Now they know how to pack a trailer, loaded there a couple of years ago and got to Birkenhead to ship and they started debating wether to let me on or not. I asked why and was told it was 48.5 tonnes! I thought my little 440 was a bit sluggish!

Not from Craven Arms, But We took 1350 carcasses to Norway last year and that was heavy… 23.5T (they were big ones) They had to take hooks from another trailer cos there was not enough in the 1st one… It doesn’t matter how careful you drive then as there is no room for them to swing !!

I (my driver) has just picked up a full load of beef for delivery tomorrow to Holland… he said it is a lot more unstable than the lamb we usually carry…

Same advice they gave me on swingin’ beef - give it plenty of wellie!

just curious, maybe a silly question, never done hanging meat before,
are they special kind of fridge’s to have hanging meat on them? i dont mean the rails etc but if all that weight is hanging off the top do they have to re-enforce the trailers so the roof can take the weight?

Reinforced roof…

God almighty are people still on with that old chestnut about the irish ffs, steel on the floor & a full load of hanging beef on 4 axles doing 85mph blah blah ■■■■■■■ blah…

The Greeks used to pour Ouzo in their fridge after a stinking load & as Mr Logic says I believe coffee has the same effect.
