H & R Transport Diary

As I did say … logging off duty is not enough, you have to completely log out and then you can go for miles and back.

I would never get out of my cab at night in a rest area in the USA, too many strange nutters driving trucks these days and most who park in those rest areas ar shirt lifters LOL I once stopped on a rest area on I-95 in Georgia to grab a couple of hours kip and some guy knocked on my door and said he had something to show me but I told him to go away, he persisted and I gave him 10 seconds to leave before I dialed 911… he hopped into his car a scarpered but i think i would not be here if I had got out.

Pat Hasler:

Not with ours Pat, we use ‘off duty PC’ (personal conveyance) which allows 75 miles in US and 45ks in Canada.

Pat Hasler:
Now I don’t like to say ‘I told you so’ to anyone but … I told you so :exclamation:
Every guy who when back in the UK asks about driving on this side of the ocean gets the same warning from me … “You will rarely see your family again” It’s not like tramping back in the UK or even Europe, it’s away 14 days at a time or even more, you have to be prepared to do it. It nearly cost me yet another marriage but luckily I got this job and it saved us.

Hi pat your right I wasn’t prepared for the hours when I was told what its like I said no as I’d have wasted my time going over but when the wee one has left home or situations change then I’d happily do it

You made a tiny mistake there Mick. Its 75 Miles in the US and 46,6 MILES or 75 KMS in Canada Mick.

And to add something they are talking about adding something best described as ‘on duty PC’ for those situations when you get stuck somewhere where you can’t stay overnight(not allowed, not safe, etc) and you’re out of hours which would then give you the possibility to legally get to a truckstop / parking even with a loaded trailer.

Not too sure where you got your info from but it’s news to me,and probably a few others over here.If only it were so :bulb:

I keep trying to sign my e-logs as it’s a legal document but it’s hard to write on the screen :unamused: :unamused:

So in the future either phone the broker or send a message to dispatch to check if your PARS has been accepted at the border a few hours before you get to the border so then you can always fax it again when needed or just wait before the border until it has been accepted.

Can’t you check online?

The office checked online and it was saying the paperwork had been faxed to customs but there was nothing at customs. Bit of a mess around but got there in the end

We can check our brokers online and it only says yay or nay!

With my two short Canadian cross border trips, I experienced 3 hours waiting the first time because I hadn’t faxed the paperwork … Silly me, then 3 minutes the second time because I had faxed the paperwork, allbeit only 5 hours previous. I imagine it just depends on if the broker has got his or her finger out.

H&R in print in November issue of Truck and Driver mag, diary of 6000 miles in a freightliner by driver Keith Revell. How weird I got job offer yesterday from HR then get this with my morning paper, good Oman or bad■■?

I speak to Keith now and then, he seems happy enough, Taffy is happy, Mick was not happy, a former poster on here was subbing for them recently and said they were not so good, we’ve a driver at our place who left there after a few months because it was no good and this week I was talking on the CB to a Brit who had been there for 7yrs and he didn’t have a bad word to say about them, so the only way to tell if it’s a good or bad omen is to see for yourself I reckon

It depends whether it’s a positive story, or a negative one, but do H&R advertise with the mag, and if so, would T&D publish a critical story concerning a big customer of theirs?

The only place I know they publish in is truckstop paper.
First of all congrats to Shaun and all the rest that got job offers to come over just take each day as it comes, its what you make it as said I not had any problems since I been here but everyone is different.

Secondly thanks to the meassages I have received telling me how helpful they have found this thread even if it helps just one person out it has made it worthwhile. So as a few I know from here and facebook are coming over thought I might carry this on for a while lol

Have had couple nice runs since last post. Last week I delivered down to Woodburn OR then down to Salinas CA for my reload and yes guys still got the weather down there 30 degrees C at 16:00 now if that’s not short weather thenn need head seeing to lol. Truck had annual safety inspection monday so had a long weekend. On my way down to Wilmington CA stopped for the night in a sinclair stop in Moapas NV I can honestly say don’t bother stopping here unless you wanna buy fireworks. The cafe shuts early and I swear the chicken mayo sarnie I got was still frozen not what you want after a full days drive.

Went over Donners pass last week on the way back was a cracking drive even though was in the dark not sure be so nice with snow in a months time or so.
Winter shopping time when get back to Lethbridge been giving a few place names to go so will let you know what I find for the guys coming out in January

In my experience under the same people who run T&D today, they wouldn’t hesitate to call a spade a spade, so I would say that they would tell it as it is

The thing you have to consider Mick, one man’s meat is another’s poison. I had the same at Big Freight, it’s the worst job I’ve ever had, by far, I really don’t like some of the people in the office, not just because of their job either, I have a genuine dislike for them as people, but I have friends who work there and they’re happy, so my story of BFS and their view of the job will be poles apart :bulb:

I believe its just Siemens that advertise in T&D for drivers in Canada.
Have not received my November magazine yet but as mentioned on Biglorryblog, its a diary of a trip submitted by road rat/ Keith Revell who contributes to blb often. I doubt it if there was any input or editing from T&D staff.

Perhaps if we all chip in a few dollars, or promise to buy Newmercman a few pints, he may well do a few more stories of Across the Pond.
