Until us drivers stand together the wages in our industry will continue to decline. Sadly it’s becoming the ‘norm’ that “if you won’t do it, he will”.

You could substitute hauliers for drivers and rates for wages.

You make a choice to not work for crap rates/wages but that severely limits your options as regards customers/employers.

I’ve had tenders that are 80 pages long with bs about environmental policy, H&S, KPIs, blah blah, but the only page that matters to pretty much every customer is the price matrix. I’m under no illusions I’m lucky that my main customer listens to its staff about the service we give and pay a fair rate. But one day that’ll go Pete Tong and some bean counter will see a saving on the bottom line and be unable to see the intangible costs of demotivated staff and a haulier that equally cares for only the bottom line.

Read your post on ‘‘Until us drivers stick together’’
Been to the bookies to put a bet on it, but he has offered me better odds on a Beatles re.union, (even though John and George are dead. :open_mouth: )
So I’m reading the upcoming gigs section of the paper with eagerness.
I’ll get back to you, …and good luck with yours also.

Make no mistake, I am not holding my breath waiting for it to happen either. I was merely making a point.

Yes fair play! Especially when you zero experience and no idea of your own skill level, or what type of job in the haulage game suits you… :unamused:

Ah mr Troll
I suspect id drive you under the rock you keep crawling out from under.
My skill level is far superior to Any old boring troll on here .

Gregory’s were good to work for ( as an owner-driver) until a couple of years ago when Old Man Gregory retired and the next generation took over. After that they became so obsessed with maximising profit that they forgot to leave any for anybody else, which is why all the subbies pulled off. At the same time, all of the long-standing and well respected traffic planners at North Tawton were driven out and replaced with brown-nosing yes-men.

Albert I’m just doing what Roy Walker said, “I’m just saying what I see.”

This guy right here is one of the reasons this industry is in huge decline ,Devided and conquered,By your own stupidity , Skill’s ive got skills you wish you had ,You probably think i came from a warehouse job like you ,Then again who knows as i do not even know you ,yet Three times you have tried to make me your victim on here .I suggest you get out more kid .

I always thought Gregorys was a decent sort of a firm, had tidy gear to use, and the drivers seemed happy, i suppose its whatever suits…but the recent pay structure seems very low, even £104 per shift is crap, i can get £150 a shift on a lot of firms down south, but depends on their generosity and how urgent.
As for drivers changing the industry, it wont happen because it would mean drivers uniting !!..When i mentioned once about refusing a 15 hour day…many drivers on the post moaned about how much they would lose, and some actually said they enjoyed the 15 hours with only 9 off. The ideal world would be a 12 on and 12 off system ( not compulsory ) to work overtime…and not made to take reduce rests, the wage for a class 1 should be at least £600 basic for 48 hours, the rest being paid at overtime rates, and also a Saturday as overtime. If you are unfortunate to have to work sundays, that too has to be paid extra and above normal rates…like it used to be…double time for sundays…time and a half for saturdays, and all bank holidays at double rate + a day off in Lieu. Christmas day…Boxing day…New years day, should be paid at triple time…and that was what us old drivers fought for years ago, and what we got, but has sadly been lost through the years…because drivers will not speak their minds, and demand what is rightfully theirs…now my tin hat is ready, and i look forward to the excuses drivers are going to make.
