Boy - you brought back some memories and old names from the past - I joined Goodways, then was one of the first 6 transferred onto Sabra - the meaning is ‘son of a hebrew born in Israel’ - we did the sugar contract Felixstowe - Bury St Edmunds every day - at least 3 a day - what a boring job… Remember Jennings - definitely ‘them and us scenario there’.
Among the first on Sabra was myself, Phil Gorham, Brian ? (can’t remember his surname) he went on to drive a sweeper around the port of Felixstowe (nicknamed Mr Rightguard) can’t think why!!! his wife worked at the petrol station inside dock gate no. 1, and Dave Mills.
Remember Simon Waspe in the office, Matthew went on to Carters - he poached me from Sabra to go to Carters (bad move). Nick Barber - really nice bloke worked with you (the driver). Remember the Goodways Xmas do at the Owell, Felixstowe - in the raffle - you (Keith) won a set of lights for your truck - the laughter could be heard for miles around - where did you fix them - you had no room left on the front of your truck in those days Keith.
Good friend from my school days Chrissy Jordan - hear he is at Transam.
I’ll keep an eye out for you when I am in Belgium - was loading near Borgloon last week.
Carna:
RE Chris from Halesworth is that the same chris who was a shunter at Mathews
That’ll be the one,Chris Jordan,he’s on Transam Trucking now.
Nice bloke is Chris (I have to say that 'cos Mat will tell him ) and Chris and I made a trip to Zandvoort one year, possibly 1989,for the Truckstar Festival.
Dunno if he still stinks of pigs,'cos he was on the livestock job for a fair while.
Yes Chris was a nice bloke i used to take diesel to Mathews when i was on Total and he used to climb over the fence and would always have a chat that was when he told me he uesd to work on Goodways with Chris Clarke
I’ve been absolutely ■■■■■■■ myself reading this thread.
I worked out of the Birmingham depot with my old man and can remember some of the names mentioned.
I remember having a night out with Johnny Marsh(as he was known then) in Newton Abbot before going to load clay the next morning, what a night that was!!!
Lovely bloke, had a lot of time for him.
Also got put on the Contship contract and got to know a lot of the Kirk Smeaton drivers,i remember big Jimmy and i can’t remember for the life of me his mate who stayed on when Davies took it over and had one of the first brown Actroses, god he used to crack me up when we had nights out in Grays yard,Jimmy went on for Wisemans or Arla.
I can honestly say i earned a bloody fortune when i was on Contship(yes, doing all manner of naughty things lol) and i don’t think there will ever be another Goodways, the craic was brilliant!!!
Unlike here at Stobarts where there isn’t any.
Nice to see old tick tock mentioned in dispatches, old git!!!

I certainly was under “H”,so glad when i got given a 3+3 and put on Contship and out of his clutches.
Alan Cowley is the man’s name you’re after, very nice bloke, not sure what he’s doing now as being on Stobbies nobody really talks too you.
Dodgy Daz springs too mind as well,so many characters in one place.

Cant remember the lad who went on for Roy Ely,i’ll have a think,i did cross h and like they say at the start of"Heart to Heart is was murder!)
I think that was one of the reasons i got put on CP,worked out better for me in the long run.
Sometimes i wished we’dgo back to the good old days!

how about bernard ?“smelly dirty mally” from “k smeaton “”” me and crowie used to ambush the poor get nearly every night he was parked up near us"", we used to tape is door handles up so he couldnt open them and take the + lead of the batts so he couldnt get out "silly now how dangerous it was"and laff in the morning when he was busting for a pee or wanting to get going to his job we used to drive of, top lad was mally he never said who it was what was ambushing him to miller etc?? or we used to drive behind him when he was parked up asleep and drive back as fast rate of nots and knock him out of bed, we was stupid in those days no one ever escaped me or crowie in the ambushing game we used to find it very amusing at the time, mind you crowie is still at the ambushing game up in selby he is still as mad as a hatter, its greese under door handles etc these days though , its best for others not to pee crowie of or your life goes down hill with is antictis he pull on them,

BELFAST FLYER no dont ask, it was cb talk for me and crowie on a friday it ment we was going home no matter what time on friday, but the ksm lads soon klicked on to it after a few weeks of us been parked in the yard engines cold and they was just coming into the yard sat morn, things you do when your young and daft,
jase did you also wear a baseball cap aswell■■?
yep good old days well sort of i enjoyed gts on contship, but just got sick of been away when the fxo lads ie jabba, glenda, hansome was getting pontefracts mid week and we would be getting the silvertown sugar boxes etc it started to get my goat at the back end of been on contship, so i packed in but i did miss it a lot esp for the laffs
once got crowie pee"d up in rugby town centre i was on for a promise and crowie was asleep in the pub and next he was running round like a headless chicken and cocked my promise up BIG TIME!!! with his silly mouth, after that tho crowie wouldnt drink with me or should i say try not to keep up with me yep good old days, no one has much time for anyone these days,

Sorry John,I forgot about you.I’ll try and sort that pic out of when we all went to Edinburgh to pick up some wide loads, you had Chrissy Clarkes motor, remember?
There was you,me,Rudy Ward and his son as second man and Joe Richards with John Dale as second man.I think it must have been when John Dale had lost his licence for a while, too many points on it!
I remember we parked at Newark on the second night, except Joe and John, they went home!
Good to hear you are still trucking even though its on the wrong side of the road, trust you are well.
I read your letter with interest it brought back many happy memories, however one story you missed was the one where Tick Tock broke his mirror…
I am still in the trucking business now working for Wincanton, funny that so is Tick Tock small world.
Just read the other reply s, I had the photo of the three of you with my vehicle when you went to Edinburgh however I have passed this on to another who I know reads these blogs"Don`t you Andy" who I feel sure will up load for you “Thank you Andy” along with other pictures as Andy collects pictures from Goodways ,Russel Davies and any other Scania pictures he can get hold of.
