Thanks for your postings guys, it’s good to hear about oldies that have given long service. It would be good to see photos too - thanks for the Mansell Davies photo Gnome, It’d be good to see piccies of the oldies he’s still using. I see a fair few of his modern motors regularly passing locally along on the A483/A55/M53/M56.
rapidgem:
R Pardoe & Sons of Ledbury were still using this immaculate Borderer on Hay and Straw delivery in 1999 as they took the opportunity, en route, to visit the Atkinson Gathering at Chorley, Lancs. I have seen it a couple of times since going up the M6, but not for a while now - anyone spotted it recently?
Cheers - RR
I’d be a little apprehensive driving a truck carying straw loaded that high with a truck,(lovely motor),with a vertical exhaust!

Yes indeed! He put that up because he suffers from asthma, and reckoned he was getting fumes in the cab
from the original exhaust. Fumes in an Atki cab? Surely not!!
I think he had to modify it after we made the sleeper pod for him - before that, he was cabbing it overnight in the day cab.
up until 2004 we had a subby running a 1978 volvo F10 (XHH805S) but it was a bit like the proverbial farmer’s hammer - she’d had 2 new cabs (last one a gobstopper) 3 drive axles, a new front axle, 2 blocks, 2 gearboxes etc
mind you he was still doing instanbul and baku for us up until getting rid, and now drives for another subby of ours instead
took these photos today of this SA 400 loading grain. it is the first time i have tried this hope it works ok.<img%20src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif”%20alt=“”%20title=“Rolling%20Eyes”%20/>%20%20<img%20src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif”%20alt=“”%20title=“Rolling%20Eyes”%20/>%20%20<img%20src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif”%20alt=“”%20title=“Rolling%20Eyes”%20/>%20http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr272/11pao4005/lesbaston.jpg
i dont know his name, but that Scania was new to a bloke who used to deliver round timber to Kronospan at Chirk, he had a profesional studio photo taken of it, which he gave a copy of to my dad when he drove for Roberts Transport. i think he sold it and bought an american lorry after.

Some nice oldies there! Here’s another contender - run by showman Dave Guest of Wigan which I took in 2006 at Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village which is a regular pitch for Dave’s fairground rides.
Lovely to see some traditional sign-writer’s work too:-
Called at Reid Freight this morning on my rounds and spotted these two in the yard, H reg still works hard on low loaders, nice to see a then and now pair, personnally I still think the F cab is better than the FH
