Gloucestershire Firms

I agree, it does look good on the Foden.
That’s what made me think it couldn’t be from Jennings! :unamused:

they might have looked good , but what a a load of crap to try to sleep in . the sleeper extension was attached at the bottom with an aluminium box section and it didn’t matter how i tried the cold from the aluminium penetrated all the bedding in winter and i ended up frozen . gaffer didn’t believe in those girly night heaters .

Nice wide engine hump in those as i remember, better off sleeping across that by the sounds of it!

Hi guy’s, I’m after any info or photo’s relating to WTE International, Lydbrook. As far as I know they had 2 trucks, a Volvo F10, reg. KWU 971V and a DAF 2800. They were dark blue with red chassis. That’s all I know so any other info would be great. I don’t even know anything about types of trailers/loads…Cheers

Hi Paul
Got to say can not remeber them at all sorry regards Keith .

With the current floods, and to bring this topic back to the top, my uncle used to tell the story of how he was once asked by the local policeman to ferry him through the flooded Maisemore to Gloucester road in his lorry. This was probably 1947 or earlier. He threw the bike on the back and the policeman climbed up in his cab then, once they got through the floods, gave my uncle a ticket for exceeding the 20mph limit. Mind you uncle was famous for his stories, many of which changed slightly or even intermingled with each telling.

Does that road still flood? I remember the school buses from the Maisemore/Hartpury area were always late when we had torrential rain. Busses and lorries could usually negotiate the road but it was a good excuse for the Cathedral Coaches drivers to be late!

It (A417) has been closed for the past couple of weeks but as it’s not in Berkshire it doesn’t make the news. The flood water in some of the lanes between Tewkesbury and Gloucester is signpost high with many villages and pubs cut off.
There is no river crossing now between Over and the Mythe and there’s a 17 ton limit on that one. The Old A38 flooded yesterday at Longford with the A40 at Over not far off. They’d just finished the flood protection barriers around the power switching station which caused all the problems in 2007 and driving past it yesterday it was only just in time but I did notice lots of activity at the other one on Alney Island.

With flood barriers in place in all the towns upstream there’s no other place for the water to go. Anyone know where I can pick up a few cubits of timber cheap?

I can find you the two sheep if that will help.
Unfortunately we’re a bit short on lions, elephants and giraffes in Macc.

Were are all the drivers gone that worked for Greenore on Sharpness Dks
Vicks-Bakers of Stonehouse-And the rest wake up you Lads.

Hopefully it will be replaced.

I hadn’t realised that there was a bench up there. Like altitude I hope they will replace it.

I can remember seeing a bench up there, but didn’t know it was for George.

Come now, lads. I found this thread languishing four pages down. It was feeling so depressed that I thought I would do the decent thing and resurrect it to the place it ought to be. Help me out here. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
Someone was asking me where this was based-

Pictured at it’s base in Monk Meadow, Gloucester.
Personally, I think it looked a lot better in it’s previous livery. Sorry, no photos but you’ll get the general idea from the company runabout…

Did stevens have a depot in Gloucestershire then thought they were only in macclesfield ■■?

Another long and boring lecture coming up, Guesty!
The vehicle in question was bought new with it’s Carmichael tanker by John Prosser of Hempstead Lane (hence the reference to it’s original livery on the van, designed by John’s son) when the cement industry was going flat out. We worked for several of the big cement companies as well as some local ones. A couple of years later the cement job went slack almost overnight, so the fleet was sold and John went into semi-retirement. The Daf was the only vehicle still on HP so John had a couple of hours on the phone looking for work and arranged with R H Stevens to subcontract work from them on a regular basis. This worked out well for Stevo’s as they had a couple of regular customers in our area.
After a while it was agreed that RHS should purchase the vehicle, “as long as the driver comes with it”. Brilliant development for me, as Stevens were paying about £15 a week more that John! The vehicle remained in Prosser’s colours and continued to be parked in his yard.
As time went on, we lost the main customer in our region and I was working more & more from Macclesfield. I had also met a lady in Macc so I became an immigrant. The story of the livery change is one for next time, if anyone’s still interested.

And it’s a pretty god excuse for keeping this thread up front!

Hi ROF , i am returning your message on this thread , which belongs here more so then the GUY , well i never knew that BRS did the Walls work always thoght it was in house , those Guys and Mandators were smart in the pale blue livery .
