youve got drivers & drivers …i used to go up there fully freighted all the time for warcups drop suspension on unit(this will give you more traction ) go like zb not to many gear changes keeping your distance not a problem
go like zb in one of warcups trucks i think not.a few of my mates work for them & when i see them i just laugh at the sheds they drive, ive seen better trucks going for export.
its not the truck that gets you up the hill its the skill of the driver…
It is more about being smooth than going fast or flat out, breaking drive or traction is for chavs and rally drivers.
Badly loaded fridges or ham fisted drivers will cause driving wheels to spin, clutches to overheat and lorries to break.
Someone mentioned a tanker, when the road starts to climb, the load is at the back & any weight is automatically taken off the drive axle. Even the hill in Dover Eastern docks catches tanker drivers out as well as many other types of vehicle.

If you’ve got no weight over the drive axle, you can be the best driver in the world and you’ll still not get traction. And you can’t always lift the axle on a wagon.
As for your “you’ve got drivers and drivers” well yes, you’re right. There’s those so bad that the only job they can get is with Warcups, because they’re so desperate they’ll take anyone, then you’ve got everyone else who wouldn’t work for the pathetic wage they pay if they were the last haulier in the country.
Last time I enquired about a job at Warcups, I laughed at him when he told me what the money was and asked him if he’d entered the 21st century yet as they pay less than I was earning in 1999.

i was following a tipper on tuesday he was heavy and we were crawling up at 10 mph anyway he must of missed a gear and we ended up stopped he managed to set off straight away, im left sat there with 17 ton of steel on and nothing but wheelspin had to engage diff lock to set off again anybody else been in this situation?
I was in that very situation this week. I was travelling along the B5303 (just off the M6) on my way to Wigton. I almost stopped but not quite, the car behind me obviously knew the road better than me and he waited at the bottom until i had cleared it
i did that one a few weeks back with a 29 ton container on the other lads going up went via carlisle as they knew that road, but i didnt. i do now i wont be going that way again when i went up it the road was damp and i came to a stop, i stuck on the diff, lifted the mid lift and adjusted the trailer suspension and set of in crawler gear and got to the top that way. but never again.
does anybody use the A632 from chesterfield to matlock. we are doing a fair bit from darley dale at the moment and thats the way we all go… A632 to the A6 the across but coming back loaded at full weight we all go back along the A6 to the A38 then back to leeds. there’s no way i fancy coming back up the A632 full weight with the 20ft stuck in the middle of the trailer. i always think this time im going to give it a try but then bottle it.

We use that route regularly both empty and fully freighted (export load in Wigton). Only wimps go via Carlisle…

One of my regular jobs on tanks was to British Sidac in Wigton. I drove an F7 with a 20 foot tandem skelly, they were a scary thing with a lift tank
