I’ve seen these guys flying about. There is another outfit near here who do the same thing.
There’s more than one, young Radar.
With regards to G S Hughes Ltd, another tale I heard on the CB this week
I really wanted to pipe up at this point and tell them that some things are best left off citizen band radio… but I didn’t.

Oh God, I hope the DVSA aren’t reading this.
I wish I could remember the companies name. I used to see them every morning when I left for work. One guy had a Daytona flag pinned to the back of his cab. Brown trucks, Volvos. Used to operate out of a quarry near the village of Metheringham.
Tipper firms wouldn’t need to rush about if they simply stopped doing loads at charitable prices just to stop others getting the work.
I stopped for a 15 when on Earthline and had the office ring me, asking what was wrong as it “wasn’t lunch time.”
The French Gendarmes used to listen to English drivers bragging of one hits to here and there. They would listen to warnings of when the wires and fuses were being pulled.

They should be ringing you up and thanking you, that 15 opens up possibilities, if your not doing too much driving.
Tell you what mate, I tried to explain to some of their “star drivers” that while they were all parked up at midday on 45s, I’d be coming into the pit, tipping at the 'dozer without waiting behind anyone else, then getting reloaded and driving out past them.

The thing this thread has opened my eyes to - is that people still use CB radios in this day and age?..
You’ll find most tipper firms still use them - certainly all of the ones local to me do. It’s probably one of the few areas of the industry where some sort of two-way communication device is very useful.

And you’ll hear how much load bonus one person gets, how much more his colleague gets, why is Mr X getting a new lorry when he doesn’t wash his on Saturdays…How much someone else has spent on bull fighting spears and blue lights for the grille…
I was just thinking the same thing, no wonder he wants to stay hidden, this smoking chimp does seem to be rather acid tounged and opinionated, calling people morons and such like, work wise what doesn’t suit one may well suit another.
Naming firms like he does is a tad ungentlemanly to say the least, also a bit risky as you tend to find these men that run tippers are no shrinking violets with a finger in several different pies, in fact I find quite a few small hauliers are shall we say “characters”…
Also ain’t it a bit creepy listening in on someone else…
Personally I would mind my own business and not let it worry me what other people do.

I used to drive tippers and fortunately we didn’t have cb radios. I do remember the endless back biting though, where some bosses boy would race around like a nutter to get an extra load in and make the others look bad. I loved the smaller jobs where I ran on my own all day, or with just one other decent driver.
From my experience, limited though it is, drivers tend to talk up the job more then what’s actually happening, god knows why but they do.
It’s easy to offend people and be rude on a forum like this but I hardly think a few cheap shots from a smoking chimp will change the industry overnight.
Haulage is a hard game, not for girls and people who are more worried about what others are doing.
As for them running illegally, because you have stated the name of the company I hope you have solid proof of this as you may find yourself in a difficult situation…
Oh, and as for forming an opinion, I am beginning to fairly quickly…
