Yebbut Tobes, if you took that to its logical conclusion then I wouldn’t be allowed to post my invoice on a Saturday afternoon when I was out shopping, that would be “other work” and I wouldn’t be having a full 45 hour rest period.

running a business Toby is not a 9-5 job no matter where you run it from.
I would think that once you have got to 3 or 4 trucks driving full time yourself is a false economy. You should be managing the business and developing relationships with customers. You should be analysing in detail what your drivers are doing. By all means do a bit of driving covering weekends and rest days etc but you are asking for trouble driving full time yourself.
My point was getting a proper rest on tacho breaks and being safe to drive, there is a lot of worry and stress running a business, and driving your truck should be the priority to concentrate on, maybe hire a family member that can run it for a small fee or do it for free to help the
cash flow a bit.
It is bad enough being an employed driver with the phone going when you stop for a rest and they say where are you, when they are too lazy to find you on their trackers.
They will ask why i have stopped when i have taken a tacho break and pulled over later to have a sleep for safety reasons, as the tacho does not dictate when i am tired to drive, and need to pull over.
