French ban weekly rest

I think this might be more aimed at the likes of Norbert etc, who seem to only have Eastern European tractor units doing their cross border transport. Hence the €30,00 fine a imprisonment threat for the owners.

Is it the right thing to do? Probably not
Will it work? I doubt it I’m sure loopholes will be found and the only people to suffer will be a few poor bloody trucks drivers who run out of time in the wrong Country or get fined for running over their hours to get out before they start a rest period.

But this is another symptom of the the rift in many Western European countries, between those who have the power and money and the ordinary worker class.

The Cabotage regulations were supposed to be ending this year, it has been postponed becasue of pressure put on their governments by trade bodies and unions in The Netherlands and France and some others, but notably nothing from our Unions or trade bodies.

And it isn’t just the UK where there is a rise in Euro skepticism, and the main problem seem to be the influx of cheap labour from the the former communist blok countries. Not the fault of those coming here, but the fault of those who allowed so many countries to join so quickly to for fill their ideological dream of one big Europe or to make more money for themselves by keeping labour costs down.

don’t feel to sorry for those waberers drivers or the others at it they nearly on same money as rest of us and basically rolling round Europe laughing at uk/nl/b/ger/all the guys just like us they don’t have to but each to there own nothing will change now its to late .but chin up theres a lot worse places to live than uk

there is always a get out clause, they can still do a reduced weekly break so do 44 hrs in Belgium and then move even go back onto break again no rule against that, then do their next weeks work and do a full weekly break in a country that’s not imposing the ban. they will just fill up Luxemburg at weekends lol :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Not so easy if you’re in the middle of France or had a reduced rest the week before.

that’s where their transport planners will have to earn their money lol

It says in the article it’s for vehicles that don’t use french registration plates. The EU would have a field day if this is the case as it’s blatant discrimination against members from other states.

if drivers drive truck with Poland reg plates,so must taked weekly rest in cab.if Polish drivers drive truck with Franch reg plates can sleep 45+hours in cab.full diskrimination or just want extra money, but not road safety.

No its not discrimination - its called protectionism. They want to defend their own domestic market against any foreign competition that they deem to be unfair.

If the UK tried to enforce the same rules against foreign registered lorries then that would be discrimination and as usual we would be fined by the European Court the same as we always do. It will never be a level playing field because a lot of the players simply don’t want one.

end of this stories will be one-big Europian company make truck registration in Franch,Germany.and goverment will be happy.

I think they should the eastern european expansion of the eu has only made the working class of western europe poorer and severly erroded there working lrospects and hard fought for terms and conditions. It was a far better place for its people before the mass invasion from the east.

‘… I doubt it will be allowed to continue for long until the EU steps in and bends everyone to their will…’

:bulb: ‘…[T]heir will…’ invariably crocks us because the (nearly Former) UK electorate constently & tribally vote for the Lib/Lab/Green/Con mainstream sycophants who all support such undemocratically arrogant traits of tyranny that are now becoming better illustrated, exposed, perceived and which are largely unwanted by a growing majority.

Fact & wink

Now look what you’ve done :unamused:

It amazed me the amount of poles moaned about romanians and bulgarians been able to come here its all well and good saying how great freedom of movement is but when there jobs are under threat thry get very xenophobic.

Its not discrimination as a UK registered truck could have any nationality driving it. Personally I think that the EU will just simply say that this was not how the rules were meant to be and change the wording accordingly. Many others have said this on this forum and I think that they are probably right but without something like this the required sea change in this industry will never happen.

Absolutely 100% this. Immigration and offshoring benefits only one class, the landowner/ factory owner/ rentier class.
