The Fuller 9 speed was used with the ■■■■■■■ L10 in the 1724 four wheeler, the 2424 six wheeler &
the 3224 unit.
The older eight speed range change used with the Ford six cylinder & ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ V8’s was
Fords own “oyster” split case box that also came in six speed & four speed versions. The eight
speed was the four speed with the addition of a two speed layshaft and actuator.

It was also standard fare in the 3828 4-wheel tractor units, unless you specified the Eaton Twin Split. The latter was standard only on the 3828TS units. Also, the Eaton/Fuller 9 speeds as fitted in the Cargo, didn’t have clutch brakes, whereas on other marques (Foden, ERF etc) they did. Ford (or possibly Iveco) infinite wisdom and all that…

EDIT: just found my old notes. They just say ‘V8’ and I remember an American engine being involved, so it was probably a ■■■■■■■ then. I do remember it couldn’t pull the skin of a rice pudding! Robert

Yes Robert, ■■■■■■■ 174 V8 - shockingly slow and lacking in torque (even when compared to the Perkins equivalent, which wasn’t that much better) and fitted as an option in the Cargo 2517 units and 6 wheel rigids for those masochists who wanted it. Last known surviving example of a 2517 Cargo fitted with the ■■■■■■■ V8 went up in flames about 3 years ago…
