Forced career change

bigvern1:
Just out of curiosity. Why do we need the knowledge nowadays? Surely every bugger has a sat nav! The last taxi I went in had one. And that was only in Torquay. :open_mouth:

From my experience, cab drivers that use sat nav are usually the worst drivers.

I had a taxi 15 years ago,it wasnt good then but its worse now.Courier work ,to many vans chasing too few jobs.Dont buy a car or van until you have work for it.

Thank’s for the advice mate.
I must admit I have been looking & found a 2009 Ford Galaxy 2.0ltr auto Ghia 16,613 mls, £15,587 will have to sell our car BUT its in the same colour so her indoors would be happy  .

The taxi drivers at Glasgow Airport that queue right outside the exit doors (although they’re not that close to the doors since the terrorist attacks) are under the jurisdiction of Renfrewshire District Council. All other taxis from other councils are not permitted to sit at the door of the airport. And there’s so many taxis now, that when all other taxis get a call to go to and from the airport, you’ll get loads chasing one job!
All the Renfrewshire District vehicles have to be coloured white. If you own your own vehicle you have to plate it. But the problem is that there are no plates available at the face value of approximately £300, due to the big money that can be made at peak times in the job. The applications for that prime spot - sitting at airport doors - are sitting in a queue years and years long.

So, due to this, the plates exchange hands and are sold legally, for in excess of 30k - usually a lot more! (the black cab plates in Glasgow city centre are far more than that - 70k plus!)

Can’t imagine it’s any different down south at most airports.

That apart, you should take advice from others, and get your badge first, rent/lease a vehicle off another taxi driver and try the job first before you heavily invest in any vehicle of your own.
