Hi, Folks we ran that sealand sleeper Foden ex Pops glg 721 k ,and KLG 200L EX POPS , ALSO KLG 400L AND TMJ///K EX RAYS OF BEDFORD , ALL 240 GARDENERS ,JUST A BIT OF USELESS INFO CHEERS BARRY

Hoynor used to based in Braintree, Essex.

They made a lot of car transporter trailers for tolemans.

I can remember once they also had the toleman f1 team lorries parked on their place on springwood ind est.

I think they went skint, but reincarnated into transporter engineering based in gosfield, Essex.

Me dad hired several bulk tippers from them (hoynor) when the beet and also the bean harvest was on in north Essex. Pretty sure he had one of the no chassis wheels of the ground ones at some time.

Cleanest it’ll ever be!

Full whack! Are they trying to disguise her? Nmp

Haukes were based near Nijmegen in Holland and used some Fodens in their haulage fleet. (nmp)

Some were fitted with a local built cab.

That top one in this batch is rather a handsome beast! A nicely balanced cab. :sunglasses: Robert

They used Gardner 8LW’s in a lot of Dutch Fodens.

8 wheeler drawbar outfit definitely as British as roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. If only legislation had played along with the configuration in the form of allowing 55t + gross weights and 40 foot trailers.

Are they not too old for 8s?

Gardner 8LW’s indeed and the reason why they had the wide style radiators to assist better cooling. Three eight wheelers towing six wheel trailers were paraded at a special demo in Arnhem, Holland. With a max payload of 35 Ton the regulations in Holland allowed for these layouts. The demo for the Dutch Ministry of Transport did well for Foden and as seen by the above pics many Dutch companies bought these vehicles and stimulated sales in Holland which became the companies main continental customer base. The Gardner LW range run from early thirties through to the sixties, 8LW engines I think were produced in the early fifties, But I pleased to welcome anyone with more accurate information to join in.

The 8LW, not to be confused with the 8LXB as used in the Guy Big J for example,  , was definitely used in these large radiator Fodens. The 8LW was available from the late 1940s.

■■■■ Off “GF” I resemble that “craic” !!!        Cheers Dennis.
