I love that little 4-wheeler in the middle of a field. It reminds me of, not a Foden but an old Atki, driven by a bloke called George who worked for Watt’s of Notts more than 40 odd years ago when I was, like him, one of the regulars delivering pipes out of Stanton.

The dockets all said ‘delivery to hard road site only’ but we were often offered money to drive across, sometimes several, fields. Most of us did so if we judged it safe, a call to the boss for a reccer to drag us out of a bog would have been very embarrassing, but we drew the line where we were doubtful. Not so George, his little old Atki would go anywhere and, as far as I know, he never got stuck.

If that is this year, then the ground is rock hard. Would that likely have a 5LW?

They usually had either the Foden 4 pot two stroke or Gardner 4LW. Sellers and Kent from Ilam, Derbyshire, ran one for years from Ballidon quarry (reg JBF 125) and that had the two stroke. It was the pride and joy of Ralph its only driver and was still working into the late 1970’s.

Truck watching as a kid from the mid 60s and early 70s I hardly recall seeing the S20 cab. That would have been screaming in the cab I guess.

I wonder where this is now, Bill who owned it passed away a few years ago? Punchy Dan may know.

Registered in London in Spring 1957 and thus, I guess, fitted with a 6 LW engine, but what was its Gross Weight? 24 tons? A fine looking truck. Thanks.
