The last two barges they ran have survived. Matthews bought some old mill machinery at auction there last year and a driver who collected it was told they had.

The last two barges are at Sharpness docks went there to be inspected when sold and were to be used again but have never left Sharpness, they both have Gardner engines one a marine version the other a road going version.Another of the barges was at Barnstaple as a house boat and another is moored at Upton on severn.

Inoticed one of Matthews 06 dafs delivering in grange today at grange bakery. handball job?

Great pics of old mill and canal. I remember delivering to Smiths flour mill at Walsall, which like most old flour mills had the canal running alongside.

Barge Derhurst again this time in Gloucester Docks with a couple of the Gloucester flour mills in the background.

Greens of Maldon, alongside the river. The mill regularly received wheat by sailing barge years ago.

Grange as in Grange Over Sands? If so it’s handball onto the pumptruck, wheel down the alley and down a ramp into the bakery. I put a Euro pallet on lengthways to act as a brake incase the pumptruck runs away. I’ll probably get that marvellous drop in a fortnight as I’m on the roster for that area when it next comes around. I’ll probably get the wonderful Kirkby Lonsdale too. :imp:
